Thailand is an incredible, varied country, with far too much to see and do to just stay in one place. That is why we have designed the My Family in Thailand Tour - to take you across the country in 12 days full of family-friendly activities and adventures.
Starting in Bangkok, the city is the perfect introduction to modern Thai culture set against incredible historic monuments such as the huge golden reclining Buddha shrine Wat Pho and the ethereal Grand Palace. The waterways or 'klongs' that connect the city offer the perfect means of transportation to see all that Bangkok life has to offer.
Leaving Bangkok we head to nearby Kanchanaburi, the site of the infamous River Kwai 'death railway'. Aside from its tragic history, Kanchanaburi is today a quaint town with a wealth of local sights including the Buddhist Tiger Temple and the nearby Erawan National Park with its spectacular waterfalls.
Leaving Kanchanaburi and heading back to Bangkok, we give you time to enjoy a day at your own leisure exploring the city's markets or simply taking it easy before taking a tour of Thailand's former capital Ayutthaya. Set on an island in the center of the Chao Phraya River, this ancient city is a picturesque vision of crumbling monuments in the most atmospheric of surroundings.
Then it's on to Uthai Thani to enjoy the surrounding waters by kayak before visiting another relic of Thailand's past, Sukhotai. Now a UNESCO world heritage site, the area is surrounded in 13th and 14th century ruins left from the days of Khmer rule.
Of course no trip to Thailand would be complete without sampling its unbeatable beaches, so for the last two days we take you to Phuket to while away the rest of your time on fine white sands against the backdrop of warm azure waters.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok: Start your family holiday in Thailand's bustling capital. After settling in, enjoy a dinner show at Ratchada Grand Theatre, where the colorful performances transfers you back in time and through the history and culture of the kingdom of Siam. Overnight in Bangkok. Includes: (D).
Day 2: Bangkok.
Tour the spectacular Royal Grand Palace and zip through the streets in a local tuk tuk to the giant reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. After a riverside lunch, traverse the network of canals aboard a traditional longtail boat. As the boat drives through the narrow waterways, take in the sights, sounds, and smells of local Bangkok life. Overnight in Bangkok. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 3: Bangkok.
Kanchanaburi: Head north to the tranquil historic town of Kanchanaburi. Visit the famous bridge over the Kwai River and the JEATH Museum to learn about the wartime history of Thailand. In the afternoon, enjoy a ride through Kwai Noi Gorge aboard the infamous ‘Death Railway' where you will continue by car and boat to your hotel. Overnight in Kanchanaburi. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 4: Kanchanaburi.
This morning, visit the Tiger Temple where local monks have developed a relationship with several wild tigers. After visiting the Khmer temple of Prasat Muang Singh, get ready for some adventure in Kanchanburi's naturally beautiful landscape. Traverse through the jungle on the back of an elephant and white water raft down rushing rivers. Overnight in Kanchanaburi. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 5: Kanchanaburi - Nakhon Pathom - Bangkok.
Start the morning with a light trek through Erawan National Park, where multi-tiered waterfalls and a variety of wildlife are waiting to be discovered! As you drive back to Bangok, stop in Thailand's oldest town to visit Southeast Asia's largest stupa. In the evening, take a special dinner cruise aboard a restored Rice Barge and enjoy the glittering view of Bangkok as its lights fill the evening sky. Overnight in Bangkok. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Bangkok.
The day is at your leisure to explore the bustling markets, majestic temples, and small laneways of Bangkok. An entire range of half day and full day excursions can be arranged depending on your family's preferences! Overnight in Bangkok. Includes: (B).
Day 7: Bangkok - Ayuthaya - Lopburi - Uthai Thani.
Travel to Ayuthaya, the ancient capital of Siam, where you will explore the ruins and temples of this countryside town. Continue towards Lopburi, the “Ape City”, to visit the Khmer Prang Sam Yod and the Monkey temple. Your final stop is Uthai Thani, where a visit to the fish market is an interesting, but smelly, way to learn about the local fishing industry. Overnight in Uthai Thani. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 8: Uthai Thani - Sukhothai.
Enjoy a morning at your leisure in the beautiful surroundings of Uthai Thani. Kayak or cycle, or simply relax in the clean open air. After lunch, take a cruise along the river past Wat Thasung, fish farms, local markets, and handicraft workshops before continuing by road to Sukhothai. Overnight in Sukhothai. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 9: Sukhothai - Bangkok - Phuket.
Visit the Historical Park of the Sukhothai, a UNESCO World Heritage Sight filled with temples and ruins from the 13th and 14th century. Explore Wat Mahathat, Wat Si Sawai, Wat Si Chum, and many others before visiting the treasures collected in the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum. Late afternoon, fly via Bangkok to Phuket, one of Thailand's premier beach destinations. Overnight in Phuket. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 10: Phuket.
Your family will enjoy two full days on Phuket at your leisure. Activities such as snorkeling, boat trips, cooking classes, and city tours can be arranged depending on your family's preferences. Or relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches and water on your own. Overnight in Phuket. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 11: Depart Phuket.
Enjoy breakfast and more time at your leisure before transferring to Phuket airport for your onward flight. Includes: (B).
