This trip begins in the handsome Spanish colonial city of Antigua and allows a day for you to rest from your arrival and explore the many points of interest in town. The first volcano we tackle is Pacaya which has been extremely active since 2006 and where, as of writing this today, it is possible to get as close to flowing lava as you can stand the heat. After Pacaya you will ascend the giant 3,760m Volcano Agua, named "Water" because of a lagoon that used to occupy its crater. Then it is on to a two night expedition to experience the wonder that is the Acatenango/Fuego complex. Acatenango at 3,880m provides expansive views NW and SE over the other volcanoes in the volcanic corridor and rewards you with a bird's eye view over the cone of the active Fuego volcano that, with any luck, will blow its top while you watch. After a night of fireworks from Fuego you will actually approach the cone of one of the world's most active volcanoes as close as you dare.
On to the next valley and set of volcanoes. Time to climb to the highest peak in Central American. The extinct Volcano Tajulmulco at 4,220m towers above the clouds and provides the longest views over the land. On to Volcano Santa Maria which, situated at the beginning of Guatemala's volcano belt, lines all the volcanoes up for you in a neat line. Looking over the backside of Santa Maria you stare down into the smoldering crater of Guatemala's 3rd active volcano Santiago. One last stop on our epic tour and that is to where no tour of Guatemala would be complete without visiting - Lake Atitlán. Here we climb up the long extinct Volcano San Pedro for a vista that looks out over the whole of the lake. Another day at the end of the trip to relax at the sunny lake and refresh your weary body brings this trip to a peaceful end. Notes: Rates vary depending on type of overnight accommodations - camping, budget, mid-range, high-end - requested, whether or not you would like to be met at the airport and if you choose to participate in any optional activities.
