K2 base camp over Gondogoro la trek has the reputation of being one of the most spectacular in the world. It goes up to the immense Baltoro Glacier which cuts through the most impressive concentration of high peaks in the Karakoram, up to Concordia at the junction with the K2 (Godwin-Austin) Glacier in an awe-inspiring scenario of 8000-meter summits. This trek is more difficult, rougher and strenuous than the one to Everest Base camp. Though it is a frequented trail and there are no long steep ascents except Gondogoro la (5480-M), it involves fording several streams and traversing slippery glaciers. The trekking starts from the village of Askole, walking along the Baltoro Glacier to reach Concordia. Concordia is the heart of Karakoram Range, and center of a complex of some of the world highest peaks and many of the largest glaciers. On every side, within radius of 24 kms, rise up ten of the world's thirty highest peaks, including, K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum peaks. Crossing the high pass of Gondogoro la and enter the other side of Karakoram in Hushe valley. The best trekking season is from month of June to mid of September each year. The Trekking to K2 base camp/Gondogoro la requires 24 days from Islamabad to Islamabad, but trekking can be possible within 18 to 21 days from Islamabad to back Islamabad, but its depends on the physical fitness and experience of the trekkers.
