Day 1 - Picking up the tourists from the airport in Cluj-Napoca (or Bucharest, plus transfer by train to Cluj). Visit of this old Transylvanian city with its historic buildings, museums etc. Transfer by car to Rachitele. Introducing to the host family and making comfortable at the guesthouse. Dinner.
Day 2 - After breakfast we enter the beautiful valley of Agastau and pass by the summer wooden cottages of the shepherds. Then we climb to the Mount Ruginoasa plateau (1201m). From here we have an impressing view to the villages in the valleys beneath and to Mount Vladeasa (1836m). We follow the ridge till the springs of Alunis Valley and we follow this valley to descend. Back to the village we visit the old water mill and the Village Museum, located in the backyard of a local inhabitant.
Day 3 - Breakfast. After a short break we follow the trail up to the Stanciului Valley until the junction with Valea Arsa (The Burnt Valley). This one will delight us with some small sized waterfalls. The narrow and wild gorges will take us after 2.8 km at the bottom of the majestic wall of Piatra Arsa Cliff (1404 m). From this point we follow a small tributary course up to an area of wooded plateaus. Crossing them we descend to the pastures where we have a great view over the village beneath. Return to the guesthouse and dinner.
Day 4 - Breakfast. We will ride a horse carriage to the junction of Stanciului Valley and Lespezilor Valley. Going up Lespezilor Valley we will find out interesting things about caves, their formation and the circuit of water in limestone areas, using what we see on our way. At the end of this ad-hoc speleological lesson we find ourselves already on the Lespezi Cliff (1175 m) where we have a dream-like view over the Rachitele Waterfall. Descending, we visit the cow herd and finally the village church. Dinner.
Day 5 - After breakfast we follow a trail through valleys and hills to reach the village of Dealu Botii. On the way we visit the shepherd’s settlements that are unchanged for hundreds of years. From the village we can see the Belis-Fantanele Lake and we cannot resist the temptation of taking a short bath. We can also ride a wooden raft that locals use to reach the distant shore. We can have lunch at one of the local houses. We go back at the guesthouse by car. Dinner.
Day 6 - After breakfast we will visit the Rachitele Waterfall and then we will make the Lespezi Mountain circuit to have some splendid views of the waterfall and of the rocks of Stanciului Gully. Then we will visit the Five Entrances Cave, a small cave whose underground river is tributary to the great karstic system in the area. Return by car and dinner.
Day 7 - On our way back to Cluj we can visit the lakes Gilau and Tarnita, the natural reserve of Cheile Turzii and/or the Salt mine in Turda. Transfer to the airport.
