Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Welcome to Dublin and we head south for the short drive to County Wicklow. Our first stop of the day is at Glendalough, the ancient monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin. Followed by lunch in a quaint pub in a seaside town of Wicklow with time to explore the town. Overnight at The Ritz Carlton at Powerscourt. Overnight and Welcome Dinner. Includes: (D).
Day 2: After a good Irish Breakfast, we have a tour of Powerscourt House & Gardens, including Italian designs, Japanese Gardens and a magnificent Walled Garden. We continue south through the beautiful Glendalough Mountains and our next stop is Waterford, located on the River Suir. We visit the Waterford Crystal Factory and learn about its rich history dating back 200 hundred years. Overnight Waterford Castle Hotel. Includes: (B),(D).
Day 3: We spend today in Waterford with our local guide on a walking tour, visiting Reginald's Tower, The City Walls, Christchurch Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, St. Olave's Church, Bishop's Palace, City Hall and Waterford Courthouse. Lunch at a local pub (not inc). Dinner on your own tonight, possibly spend an evening at a pub in town enjoying lively traditional Irish music. Overnight Waterford Castle Hotel. Includes: (B).
Day 4: After breakfast our first stop today is at The Rock of Cashel, a large Cathedral, ancient round tower and Cormac's Chapel, the site where St. Patrick converted the local King Aenghus, in the 5th century& where Brian Boru was crowned King of Ireland in the 11th Century. We then head to Ennis and on to The Cliffs of Moher, which reach up to 214m in height, and where you can see all the way to the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara. Overnight at Sheedy’s Country House Hotel. Dinner Inc. Includes: (B),(D).
Day 5: After their award winning Irish Breakfast we take a daytrip on the ferry to the Aran Islands where we meet a local guide who shows us the highlights of the Islands and tells us the rich history. We learn what life is like living on a small Irish island. We return on the evening ferry back to Sheedy’s Hotel. Dinner on own. Includes: (B).
Day 6: This morning we stop at The Burren, a fine collection of alpines and Mediterranean species growing together in this limestone area. The Burren is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and Galway Bay and has some of the finest archaeological megalithic tombs in Ireland. We also visit the vortal tomb at Poulnabrone, which dates back 6000 years. We then stop in Galway with time for lunch and a free afternoon. We head north to Cong where we check into Ashford Castle. We have a lavish gourmet dinner in their George V Dining Room tonight before we have the option to enjoy some lively traditional music in the *Dungeon*. Overnight Ashford Castle. Includes: (B),(D).
Day 7: After breakfast we have a morning trip to Kylemore Abbey, the Monastic home of the Benedictine Order of Nuns in Ireland, located in the beautiful Connemara Mountains. Enjoy the Abbey, gardens and Chapel before we return to the castle for the afternoon. Free time for golf, fishing, spa treatments or just relax in the beautiful surroundings or walk in the many acres of gardens at Ashford or explore the quaint village of Cong. Evening cruise on Loch Corrib before another wonderful dinner at the Castle. Includes: (B),(D).
Day 8: Today we depart for the village of Athenry, made famous in the song, The Fields of Athenry where we see ruins of Athenry Castle and hear about the history of the area. We then continue on to Althone, to Clonmacnoise, an Early Christian site of round towers, high crosses and grave slabs founded by St. Ciarán in the mid-6th century. On to Dublin where we will spend the next four nights in this beautiful vibrant European city, with great pubs, lots of traditional Irish music, clubs, and The Gaiety Theatre (home of Riverdance). We spend the next 4 nights at The Clarence, Dublin’s Premiere Boutique Hotel. Includes: (B).
Day 9: This morning we welcome our local guide who takes us on a city tour visiting some of the more famous places in Dublin, The River Liffey, Grafton Street, St Stephens Green, Trinity College and The Book of Kells, and the Guinness Factory. Overnight Dublin. Includes: (B).
Day 10: Today we head north to Newgrange and tour The Megalithic Passage Tomb at which was built about 3200 BC. Newgrange has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO . We then head to The Hill of Tara, the Seat of the High Kings of Ireland. We continue on to the Heritage Town of Trim for a visit to Trim Castle, built in 1176 before we return to Dublin. Overnight Dublin City. Includes: (B).
Day 11: Our last day in Ireland, you are on your own to explore the city, now that you are familiar with where everything is, do some final shopping , take the Open Top Double Decker bus ride around the city or visit one of the historical sites you have missed so far, take a stroll through St Stephens Green. Final night Dinner followed by a get together in a Pub for Traditional Music. (Optional) Includes: (B),(D).
Day 12: After an early breakfast, we have morning transfers from The Clarence to Dublin Airport for your return flights home. Includes: (B).
