What the project does and why it needs you!
This animal rescue project in Ranong was established to help protect the endangered gibbon population. The project cares for gibbons who can not survive in the wild due to poor health or emotional trauma. Some gibbons also are brought to the sanctuary because their owners can no longer afford to keep them. The workers at the sanctuary treat sick and injured gibbons as well as care for those animals too dependent on humans to survive on their own in the wild.

Who is it for?
This project is perfect for ape lovers or anyone interested in wildlife conservation.

What will you be doing?
You will have full days at the project (up to 8 hours a day) doing a host of activities including preparing food, feeding the animals, cleaning cages, helping with health checks and data collection.

Where will you be staying?
You will be staying in basic shared bungalow huts on site. You will be sharing a room with up to three others. The accommodation has fans but no air conditioning. While in Bangkok you will be staying in a shared dormitory room in a basic but clean hostel.

What will you be eating?
You are responsible for your own food. The project has cooking facilities and you can buy fresh ingredients from the market to cook either by yourself or with the staff. Even easier there are also a variety oflocal restaurants and foodstalls nearby that offer a variety of meal options with prices starting around $1 USD per dish.

Advice and things to bring
It’s a good idea to bring some comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and some work gloves. Please note that volunteers are required to have had all relevant vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B, Tuberculosis (TB), Diphtheria, Rabies, Pertissus, Tetanus and Japanese Encephalitis before entering the project.

When you arrive please book your flights to arrive into Bangkok (airport code BKK). If you arrive on the designated arrival date you will be picked up from the airport and taken to your hostel in Bangkok.
