All our tours start in South Africa in Fouriesburg, a small farming community on the South African – Lesotho border.
This tour will take us through almost the entire Southern part of the Maluti Mountains. We will drive through breathtaking scenery of mountains, valleys, mountain streams and waterfall is wile going deeper and deeper into the Mountains via several mountain passes such as the Ngakana Pass, and the “Gate of Paradise” Pass. During our tour we will penetrate deep into Lesotho and we will experience the Basotho life intensely.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: From Fouriesburg we go in the direction of Ficksburg, Ladybrand, Zastron and we will cross into Lesotho at Tele Bridge. From there we go into the mountains to the little remote village of Ho Liphapang. It is situated on the slopes of the valley of the River Sepabala. In this village we will spent the first night. The accommodation will be in traditional village huts, especially reserved for guests. There are no showers, but a refreshing dive in the River will do the job. The activities here are fishing, hiking, pony trekking and very special San Rock paintings.
Day 2: We will stay in Ho Liphapang till after lunch and proceed then to the village of Mount Moorosie. Here we will spend the night in the Moroosi Chalets. This is a Lodge operated by the local village community. The accommodation is simple with a special local touch to it. There are several activities possible in and around Mount Moroosi.
Day 3: The next day we leave Mount Moorosie via Mohale’s Hoek and then drive a via a Mountain trail to Malealea where we will spent the night. This is an old Trading Post that is transformed into a Lodge. In Malealea is so much to do, that everybody will find something to his appetite. To get a taste of the local culture a visit to the local museum and the hand craft centre are ideal.
Day 4: The next day we drive via mountain trails in a North Eastern direction to Ramabanta, where we will spend the night in the Trading Post. In this area there are several trails for pony trekking and hiking.
Day 5: After breakfast we drive to the university town Roma and from there two the capital Maseru. We will pay a short visit to Maseru, 350.000 inhabitants, to get an idea of the difference of life in the Mountains and the city. Expensive Mercedes and Discoveries navigate their way through the potholes in the roads along the stalls where all thinkable is for sale. Young people dressed in the latest designer fashion walk along mountain people dressed in the traditional blankets. From Maseru we go to the border post Peka from where we return to Fouriesburg.
