Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Sofia.
Arrival in Sofia. Our guide will meet the group at the Sofia Airport. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Free time at leisure. Dinner and folklore show at Bulgarian style tavern. Overnight.
Day 2: Sofia – Rila Monastery – Plovdiv.
Breakfast. Departure to the town of Plovdiv via Rila Monastery, picturesque located in the heart of Rila Mountains. It is the most famous monument of Bulgarian culture from the National Revival period, the most visited tourist place in our country under UNESCO protection. Visit of the monastery complex and the museum. Lunch at local restaurant. The road proceeds to the town of Plovdiv - one of the most romantic places in Europe. Accommodation at “Bulgaria” * * * hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Plovdiv – Bachkovo Monastery – Asenova Fortress – Plovdiv.
Breakfast. Guided tour of the Old town of Plovdiv – a reserve of Bulgarian National Revival architecture (19-th century) with visit to The Ethnographical museum and Roman amphitheater. The tour precedes to the Asenova Fortress and Bachkovo Monastery - the second largest in Bulgaria – a masterpiece of architecture, murals and icons. It is located in a green cool river valley in Rhodopi Mountains. Lunch at local restaurant. Back to the town of Plovdiv. In the afternoon – free at leisure. Dinner and overnight at “Bulgaria” hotel * * *.
Day 4: Plovdiv – Kazanalk – Shipka – Etara – Veliko Tarnovo.
Breakfast. Drive to the town of Veliko Tarnovo. On the way visiting the famous Kazanlak Thracian tomb (included in the UNESCO world heritage list). Lunch in Kazanlak. The road proceeds to Veliko Tarnovo with stop over at Shipka hill the symbol of Bulgarian Independent and Etara – an Open Air museum. Arrival in Veliko Tarnovo - the ex-capital city of The Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1185 – 1396). Accommodation and dinner at “Gurko” hotel * * *.
Day 5: V. Tarnovo – Arbanasi – Tryavna – Dryanovo Monastery – V. Tarnovo.
Breakfast. City tour – old town of Veliko Tarnovo and the historic Tzarevetz Hill. Visit the museum village of Arbanassi – the royal residence during The Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Sightseeing tour with visit of the oldest and richly decorated Nativity Church (1637-1649) and The Konstantsaliev House presenting 19-th century Arbanassi lifestyle. The tour proceeds with visiting of the picturesque Drianovski and Sokolski Monasteries and the town of Tryavna, famous with its architecture and fascinating talent of the Tryavna masters – painters and woodcarvers. Visit of The Wood-carving museum. Back to Veliko Tarnovo. Accommodation and dinner at “Gurko” hotel * * *.
Day 6: Veliko Tarnovo – Troyan – Koprivshtitsa.
Breakfast. Departure to the Museum town of Koprivshtitsa - one of the unique Bulgarian towns having presented the original architectural heritage from the Bulgarian Revival period. On the road stop over in the beautiful little town of Troyan. Visit The Troyan monastery – the third largest in Bulgaria, famous with its icons, iconostasis and murals – samples of the outstanding Bulgarian renaissance art schools. Lunch at local restaurant. Drive to Koprivshtitsa. Accommodation, dinner and overnight in “Bashtina House” * * * hotel in Koprivshtitsa.
Day 7: Koprivshtitsa – Sofia.
Breakfast. Walking tour of Koprivshtitsa Museum Town. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon departure to the Sofia. Accommodation and dinner at “Serdica” hotel * * *.
Day 8: Sofia City Tour – Departure.
Breakfast. Half day sightseeing tour of Sofia with visits of The Crypt of St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the National museum of history and Boyana Church, dated 1259, known for its 13th century murals, famous for their exceptional realism. The church is one of the seven Bulgarian sites under UNESCO protection. In the afternoon transfer to the Sofia Airport for fly at home.
