The Angola Beach Adventure is ideal for those not wishing to travel overland, yet wanting to get a feel for the country. Based at the Flamingo Lodge, on the country’s Atlantic coast, this a trip of adventure and discovery. Getting to Flamingo is an adventure in itself. Flamingo Lodge is situated in a scenic setting against low cliffs on the beach near the mouth of the dry Rio dos Flamingo.
Tour Itinerary: Day 1: UK to Lubango via Windhoek, Namibia, arriving the next day. Overnight flight to Windhoek, Namibia, connecting the next day to Lubango, Angola. Day 2: Lubango. Airport to hotel transfer. Capital of the south, Lubango is a bustling city rapidly emerging out of the turmoil caused by the country’s tragic past and becoming a modern day example of the new Angola. Lubango is set in a lush tropical valley guarded by the statue of Christ built high above on the cliffs overlooking the city. Rich in colonial architecture mixed with the confusion of Africa, Lubango has many bars and restaurants that offer interesting variety with rich Portuguese heritage. Overnight: Somitour Hotel, Lubango. Day 3: Lubango to Flamingo Lodge (5 hours). A scenic drive, through the mountains and the breathtaking Lebba Pass to the Atlantic coast. Along the way we will visit Tunda Valla (1,300 m) a stunning gorge cut into the cliffs overlooking Bibala. This site is not only beautiful but also historically significant. We continue via the town of Namibe and a 40 km drive along the beaches to our comfortable Flamingo Lodge. The Lodge is situated in a scenic setting against low cliffs on the beach near the mouth of the dry Rio dos Flamingo. This area of coast is at the northern extent of the Namib Desert and is practically devoid of other tourist activity. Flamingo Lodge consists of seven rustic bungalows with comfortable beds, showers and flushing toilets. An open-plan dining and bar area is situated above a safe swimming beach. A number of excursions are available, including quad-bike tours to nearby sandstone canyons, superb fishing, and parasailing. Overnight: Flamingo Lodge. Days 4–6: 2 night camping excursion. You have a choice of options depending on your interests. We can highly recommend a desert adventure for those who would like to experience the beautiful landscapes that the area offers. Visits to the hot water springs at Pediva and the Arco on the shores of a huge natural freshwater lake are highlights of a drive through a geologically and ecologically highly diverse area. Alternatively travel south, as far as the border with Namibia to Baia dos Tigers and Foz do Cunene. This area is breathtaking. The route taken is between high dunes and the sea, and is only passable at spring tides. The huge lagoons are populated with an abundance of bird life, dolphins, turtles and jackals are common, and gemsbok and brown hyenas are frequently seen. Days 6-7: Flamingo Lodge. After your 2 night camping excursion simply relax and enjoy the excellent lodge. For those that want to discover more, why not rent a quad bike and head off into the desert, perhaps to explore the nearby sandstone canyons. Overnight: Flamingo Lodge. Day 8: Flamingo Lodge to Lubango (5 hours). Return to Lubango for your final night in Angola. Overnight: Somitour Hotel, or similar. Day 9: Lubango to UK, via Windhoek, Namibia. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Windhoek, connecting the same day to London. Day 10: Arrive UK. Notes: - Clients traveling on this tour must be aware that tourism in Angola is in its extreme infancy. Basic infrastructure and in particular suitable accommodation is in short supply. Therefore it is very unlikely we can provide single room accommodation. All clients must be willing to share lodge and hotel rooms with another traveler of the same sex. However, we can normally supply tents for single occupancy for the nights camping. In addition when we have shown an overnight stay as lodge/hotel or camping, i.e. at Flamingo, we will do our best to secure sufficient lodge/hotel rooms for the complete group. Nonetheless all clients must be prepared to camp as very often this will be our only option. Again, we stress that this is very much the nature of traveling in Angola and we thank our clients for their understanding. - It should be noted that the process for obtaining an Angolan entry visa can be very time consuming. We recommend that you make your application at least two months before travel, and use our in-house Angolan visa service.
