Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Sunday: Arrival at Sofia airport.
Meeting the group by our representative and transfer to Sofia town and accommodation to the hotel. Dinner at the hotel. After the dinner, with glass of wine or whiskey in hand – presentation in details of the coming itinerary. Overnight.
Day 2, Monday: Sofia – Rila Monastery – Bansko (on regular roads).
Breakfast. Departure with 4x4 jeeps to Rila Monastery. Lunch in local tavern in monastery area. After lunch – sightseeing tour of Rila Monastery, picturesque located in the heart of Rila Mountains. It is the most famous monument of Bulgarian culture, spiritual center of Bulgarians for more than 10 centuries. The icons, iconostasis and murals are samples of the outstanding Bulgarian renaissance art schools from the National Revival period. The interior is a beautiful interlace of colonnades arches, wooden staircases and verandas. The museum keeps a rich collection of books, manuscripts and icons. The road proceed to the town of Bansko – world famous winter resort & village from Revival period. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner & overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 220 km.
Day 3, Tuesday: Bansko – dam lake Batak (off road).
Breakfast. Off road driving from Bansko to dam lake Batak. Batak’s lands are sprinkled with many monuments to the area’s culture throughout the ages - the archaeological dig “Kremenete”, The old Roman road runs through the area once known as “Kasukskoto Kale”. Along this road also stood the castle “Biglata”, The famous “Kemerov Most” (Kemerov Bridge), which amazes many tourists with its beautiful design. Situated in a beautiful setting spanning the “Vuchna” river, the “Kemerov Most” is a unique monument of culture in the Rhodopis, and attracts many visitors and historians. Accommodation to the hotel, located close to dam lake’s coast. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 85 km.
Day 4, Wednesday: Dam lake Batak – Devin (off road).
Breakfast. Off road driving to the town of Devin. The town of Devin is located in the heart of the Central Rhodopes Mountain, in the valley of the Vacha River, at 710 m above sea level. The curative mineral water is the greatest treasure of the region. Accommodation to a hotel in Devin area. Dinner. Overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 65 km.
Day 5, Thursday: Devin - Smolyan (off road).
Breakfast. Off road driving to the town of Smolyan. Accommodation in typical local style house in Smolyan area. Visiting the Star Hall of Smolyan Planetarium (as an option), the biggest in Bulgaria, which offers projections of the sky and astronomical shows all the year round. In the evening – BBQ with live folklore music, fun and dances…. Overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 50 km.
Day 6, Friday: Smolyan – Zlatograd (off road).
Breakfast. Off road driving to the town of Zlatograd. Zlatograd is the southernmost town in Bulgaria. It is situated in the Rhodope Mountain – on the boundary between its central and eastern parts. The town is located in a picturesque valley. The Zlatograd ethnocultural area has been inhabited for millenniums. The town itself has a history of many centuries. The numerous archaeological sites witness its ancient inception and historical development and monuments of culture (pagan sanctuaries, acropolises, tombs, Christian and Muslim places of worship), wrapped in the romantic spell of folklore legends and traditions. Accommodation at family hotel. Dinner & overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 50 km.
Day 7, Saturday: Zlatograd – Bachkovo monastery – Sofia (on regular roads).
Breakfast. Departure for Sofia. Stop over in Bachkovo for lunch in local restaurant and visiting the Bachkovo monastery - the second biggest Bulgarian monastery (founded in 1083) is chiefly known for its original architecture, rich collections of old icons, jewelry, coins and church plate. The Holy Trinity and St. Nicholas church (1840) contain some of the first murals painted by the celebrated National Revival artist Zahari Zograph. The road proceed to Sofia. Accommodation at the hotel. In the evening – Farewell folklore evening with dinner. Overnight. Total covered distance for the day – 270 km.
Day 8, Sunday: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport for flight to home.
