Departs Tauranga 8.30am and venture through the bush clad ranges to arrive in Rotorua 45 minutes later. Visit Rachel Springs, the hottest springs in Rotorua, the Rotorua Museum and Bath House within the tranquil Government gardens, the Waiatapu Mud Pools, St. Faiths Church at Ohinemutu.
Proceed to Taupo, which boasts the largest lake in New Zealand as the foreground to snow capped mountains and windswept landscapes. Visit Wairakei Terraces, a cultural and geothermal experience in the heart of New Zealand’s biggest volcanic zone. Wairakei Terraces offers you a look back in time to the thermal wonderland, incorporating over 20 features of cultural and geothermal features: soothing foot baths, waterfalls, blue pools and geysers, silica terraces, Maori carvings, carving house and meeting house within a Marae.
You will be welcomed to experience the very cornerstone of Maori custom and culture. A personally guided geothermal tour shows you one of the world’s most extraordinary engineering feats, the generation of electricity using local geothermal energy. Enjoy lunch in the café, followed by a brief stop at Lake Taupo to soak in the view. If there is time, view the tremendous Huka Falls enroute to Tauranga via Tirau, Matamata and the Kaimai Ranges.
