Depart Auckland 8am and head south to enjoy the sight if New Zealand’s largest volcano crater: Lake Taupo. Arrive at the secluded Poronui Ranch, just out of Taupo, for lunch. The 16,000 acre property, favoured for fishing and hunting, will be your playground for the afternoon and night. Explore the property with a guided 4WD tour before dining on a sumptuous evening meal.
The next day depart after breakfast and head to the peninsula of Hawke’s Bay to board the private Wilderness Tour, which includes viewing a gannet colony and understanding the area’s ecosystem. After lunch on the beach, head to Clearview Vineyard for wine tasting. Once the taste buds have been tantalized arrive at Greenhill - The Lodge, your abode for the next two nights. Refresh and explore the property, before dinning at Craggy Range, one of New Zealand’s most esteemed vineyards. Your first destination the following day is Trinity Hill, for a mid-morning wine tasting followed by a tour and tasting at Sileni Vineyards. Thereafter, head south to a quaint beach house on the coast for a snapshot of local life, where fresh crayfish will be harvested for your lunch. Relax for the afternoon and soak in the breathtaking scenery and pristine waters. Return to Greenhill late afternoon in preparation for dinner with Convivium Wines, involving wine tastings with a wine connoisseur. Day four begins with an Art Deco tour through Napier with Bertie in a 1934 Buick. Visit Brookfields Vineyard for lunch, followed by a wine tasting at Esk Valley enroute to Taupo. Once arriving at the esteemed Huka Lodge in Taupo, you can explore the landscaped property on the banks of the Waikato River, before dining. Your final day begins with a lazy breakfast and a visit to Wairakei Terraces, where you can look back in time to the thermal wonderland, including soothing footbaths, waterfalls, blue pools and geysers, silica terraces, Maori carvings, carving house and meeting house within a Marae. A personally guided geothermal tour shows you one of the world’s most extraordinary engineering feats, the generation of electricity using local geothermal energy.
