The Karlštejn castle it is one of the most famous castles in the Czech Republic. It was built by the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348 as a place of safekeeping for the royal treasures, especially Charles's collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire. The tour of the castle includes historical interiors of the Imperial palace and the lower floors of the Marian tower with valuable equipment from the 14th to 19th centuries. Your guide will pick you up at agreed place and time; most likely at the reception of your hotel. The castle is situated on a hilltop and one has to climb a steep road for about about 1 km. One can either walk, take a taxi or a horse carriage. Below the castle there is a small village full of souvenir shops and local restaurants where we can stop for traditional Czech lunch.
