The Castle: The Karlštejn Castle it is one of the most famous castles in the Czech Republic. It was built by the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348 as a place of safekeeping for the royal treasures, especially Charles's collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire. The tour of the castle includes historical interiors of the Imperial palace and the lower floors of the Marian tower with valuable equipment from the 14th to 19th centuries.
The castle is situated on a hilltop and one has to climb a steep road (about 1 km). If you don´t feel like walking, we will take a taxi or a horse drawn carriage. During the castle tour one has to walk up/dawn a few steps as well. Under the castle there is a nice village full of souvenir shops and restaurants where we can stop for traditional Czech lunch.
Glassworks: This tour can be very nicely combined with a visit of the nearby Crystal Manufacture. The glass works manufactures an extensive range of cut 24% leaded crystal in a wide variety of decorations from the simple to extremely complex and laborious decorations, with gilt, hand painting and sandblasting. The company was chosen for the production and supply of official state gifts due to the very high quality of its products and services. It is possible to walk around the firm's glass works where you can see all stages of how the glass is made.
Your guide will pick you up at agreed place and time; most likely at the reception of your hotel. After the excursion of the Crystal glass works you can buy Crystal in the factory shop for very reasonable prices.
