Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Nov 27: Depart You leave for Thailand. The adventure begins! (Meals on flight) Day 2, Nov 28: Bangkok You arrive in Bangkok where your guide will meet you, welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Includes: (D). Day 3, Nov 29: Bangkok Today the day begins with a trip to the Golden Buddha Temple. Afterwards you will visit the Reclining Buddha Temple, which features a giant Buddha statue, which is over 100 feet in length. After lunch you will go to the incredible Grand Palace with Wat Pra Kaeo. This historic set of governmental and religious buildings displays the incredible sense of making like precious stones and jewelry. Several unique buildings stand side by side, from the Golden Stuppa to the glittering Wat and the governmental buildings with the English architecture and Thai roofs. Evening: Traditional Thai dinner with classical dances and traditional performances (and beautiful costumes). Includes: (B, L, D). Day 4, Nov 30: Bangkok-Chiang Rai You leave early in the morning to visit the Floating Market. Here you will ride on the canals through an older Thai river neighborhood and onto the actual Floating Market area. After lunch you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Chiang Rai. There your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Option: A soothing Thai or oil massage (either at a massage site or even in your hotel room). Includes: (B, L). Day 5, Dec 1: Chiang Rai You will visit the Queen Mother's Home and Garden, Doi Tung. Afterwards we will take you to the Burmese border, where there are many interesting sights and Burmese handicrafts, silver work, gems, jewelry and fabric arts including their incredible trapuntos. Then you will go to the historic Golden Triangle where three countries share a border, Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar). You will see the small Opium Museum and where two rivers join the three nations. Then you will be taking a ride on a small river boat to the Burmese side and stop on a small island owned by Laos. Day 6, Dec 2: Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai After breakfast you will go on an excursion across to visit the hill tribe villages where you will meet the Aca, the Hmong, Yao and the Karen (the people with the multiple rings around their necks). Many of the natives have stands with handicrafts, hats, weavings, embroideries, etc. Lunch will be at local restaurants along the way. Then you will arrive in Chiang Mai and check into the hotel and enjoy dinner at local restaurant in Chiang Mai. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 7, Dec 3: Chiang Mai The day begins with a visit to the Doi Suthep, the ancient temple sight. After lunch we will take you to the Handicraft "villages" which are actually the various factories of many things which the Thais make very well: silk, silver crafting, umbrellas, cloissonne, furniture and leather. Evening Option: The Night Market. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 8, Dec 4: Chiang Mai After breakfast you will visit the Elephant Camp, see the elephant show, cultural show and take a one hour elephant ride, go on a bamboo raft and learn about the noble Asian elephant and the worker monkeys. You will also visit the Orchid Farm. Evening - Khantoke dinner with hill tribe dances (spectacular show, dance, music and costumes). Includes: (B, L, D). Day 9, Dec 5: Chiang Mai-Siem Reap You will take a flight from Chiang Mai to Siem Reap where your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. You will begin the Angkor Wat tour with Angkor Thom, the ancient city. Includes: (B, D). Day 10, Dec 6: Siem Reap Continue on the Angkor Temple Complex. A full day tour Angkor Wat (the main temple area) and some of the minor temple areas. Evening option: Sunset Cruise on the Great Lake through the Submerged Forest (this boat is equipped with life jackets). Includes: (B, D). Day 11, Dec 7: Siem Reap Some of the most spectacular sites in Angkor Wat including Ta Prohm and Bantay Srei. Evening option: Sunset view from mound of Phnom Bakeng. Includes: (B, D). Day 12, Dec 8: Siem Reap-Hanoi You will be transferred to the airport for flight to Hanoi. Your guide will meet you and transfer you to the hotel in the Old Quarter near Hoan Kiem Lake (like the Hong Ngoc). When you are ready you will take an Old Quarter rickshaw tour. If there is time you will also visit the Confucius Literature Center also with a small concert of traditional Vietnamese music (complete with traditional ethnic costumes). Includes: (B, L). Day 13, Dec 9: Hanoi-Halong Bay Today you will go on the Halong Bay cruise through the spectacular islands, have lunch in the midst of the beautiful areas and visit the caves. Possibly swim in bay. You will stay overnight on the cruise junk. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 14, Dec 10: Halong Bay – Hanoi - Hue You can go kayaking in this gorgeous area or you can ride a motorboat. Then you will cruise back to the harbor and then drive back to the Hanoi airport for your flight to Hue, where your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Includes: (B). Day 15, Dec 11: Hue Your tour can be your preference of motor vehicle or by bicycle or to visit the Imperial Citadel - first built by king Gia Long in 1805. Here you will visit Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace, The Mieu Temple, and the Nine Dynastic Urns. There is a cultural show here which is itself a World Heritage Cultural experience! After lunch you will visit the Royal Tombs (king Khai Dinh's and king Tu Duc's tombs), then we Thien Mu Pagoda, Trang Tien Bridge and shopping at Dong Ba Market. Evening Option: You can board a traditional Chinese boat and hear traditional VN music (including musical cups) while cruising along Perfume River. This includes a ceremony where you release Chinese lanterns with candles on the water. You will continue in Hue. Includes: (B, L) Day 16, Dec 12: Hue – Danang – Hoi An Today you will drive through the countryside and see some beautiful rural countryside, then pass through the tunnel as you head south. When you arrive in Danang, you can stop and visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture to see a fine collection some 300 sandstone sculptures of gods, beasts & celestial dancing girls of exquisite beauty - created between the 7th to 15th centuries from the Champa Empire. Tonight you will have dinner in a local restaurant. Includes: (B, D). Day 17, Dec 13: Hoi An Today you can tour and enjoy the ancient town of Hoi An. There is so much in a small area that this is primarily a walking tour. You can walk around the old neighborhood and picture what life here must have been like centuries ago - on the old habour city with houses, bridge temple, pagoda, handicraft workshops and the lantern shops. Dinner with Hoi An special dishes. Includes: (B, D). Day 18, Dec 14: My Son – Hoi An Today you will drive out and visit My Son Holy Land (pronounced ‘Mee Sown’ – which is an incredible World Heritage archeological site), This is the 7th-12th Century ruins for the Cham kingdom. Then you will be returned to your hotel. The oldtown area has a delightful nightlife with the beautiful atmosphere generated by dim-lit locally made lanterns). Includes: (B, L). Day 19, Dec 15: Hoi An – Danang - Ho Chi Minh City You will be transferred to the airport in Danang for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation. Includes: (B). Ootion: Half day city tour This afternoon you will have a tour of Saigon (HCMC). Visit the Reunification Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, City Post-Office and Lam Son Square. Evening Option: This evening, enjoy a dinner cruise along the Saigon River. You will be met at your hotel and escorted to Bach Dang Pier. During dinner, your floating restaurant will cruise along the breezy and quiet Saigon River with neon-light views of the city. Dinner is Vietnamese cuisine with table setting, and some light entertainment and commentaries. Day 20, Dec 16: Ho Chi Minh City – Home This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight back to the USA with a lifetime of wonderful memories! Includes: (B).
