A 45 minute drive from the hustle of Belize city lies the ancient Maya site of Altun Ha. The remants of the city lies in the jungles of Belize only to be discovered in the 1950's. Here one can see the 5 temples built more than 1000 years ago. The site is described by Archeologist Dr. David Pendergast as a minor ceremonial site featuring several temples, residential areas, water reserviors and a major trading center that culminated its hay day around 900 AD. A major find at this site is Belize's most precious artifact "the Jade Head" representation of the Maya sun god. See the sacrificial altar, ceremonial mask flanking the stairways, and hear from your guide the findings at the site, the local Maya lifestyle and so much more, all in a rainforest setting.
