Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Tana. Upon arrival, direct transfer to hotel. Overnight at Colbert or Louvre (Top), Anjary Hotel (midrange comfort).
Day 2: Tana-Antsirabe. In the morning, leave Tana and drive to Antsirabe which lies 170 km south of Tana in the national route number 7; it takes almost three to four hours drive to get there. Antsirabe is one of the coolest towns in Madagascar and it is the capital of the Pousse-pousse (rickshaw). Along the way, you can see many shops selling products made from raffia and Malagasy crafts as well. Arriving in Antsirabe, drive through "Tritriva" Lake. In the city, there are lots of mining shops selling precious stones, visit the shop of Joseph. Stay at Hotel Retrait (midrange comfort).
Day 3: Antsirabe-Miandrivazo. Leave Antsirabe and drive to Miandrivazo (220 km) which is primarily notable as the starting point for canoe trip down to Tsiraraka. This area is one of the hottest places in Madagascar, so bring thin clothes and umbrellas. Overnight at Hotel Baobab (midrange).
Day 4: Miandrivazo-Morondava. Leave Miandrivazo and drive to Morondava. Morondava is the capital of "Sakalavan i Menabe", western part of Madagascar. There are a lot to do in the surrounding of Morondava. About 15 km north of Morondava is the famous Baobab Avenue known as the "Allée de Baobab" (Baobab Alley). The best times to visit are at sunset and sunrise, when the colors of the trees change. The reserve of Kirindy covers approximately 10 000 hectares. The reserve is home to six species of lemurs, 32 reptiles and turtles. Overnight at Renala Sable d’Or (midrange/Top) or Hotel Baobab café (midrange and top).
Days 5-6: Morondava-Tsingy. Drive from Morondava to the National Park of Tsingy of Bemaraha (eroded limestone) near Bekopaka village. Visit at the park. With 152 000 hectares (66 630 hectares of which have national park status) is one of the largest protected areas in Madagascar. The Tsingy is a vast forest of rugged and eroded karst/limestone pinnacles. There are about 90 species of birds, 8 species of reptiles and 11 species of lemurs. Overnight at Olympe du Bemaraha (midrange and top) or Hotel Orchidée (top).
Day 7: Tsingy-Morondava. A long drive from Tsingy to Morondava; stop for lunch at Belo Sur Tsiribihina; last stop at the Baobab alley to take photos during the sun-set. Hotel Renal Sable D’Or (midrange/top) or Hotel Baobab Café (midrange/top).
Days 8-9: Morondava-Belo Sur Mer. Leave Morondava to Belo Sur Mer. Belo sur Mer is an attractive seaside village, with a lovely beach and regional ship-building center and good place for diving or snorkeling. Hotel Marina (top) or Ecolodge du Menabe (midrange).
Day 10: Belo Sur Mer–Morombe. Early morning drive (at 4 am) to reach Morombe. Morombe is about a half way between Toliara and Morondava. It is a pleasant coastal town. Morombe rewards those with time to stroll. It is quite a prosperous-looking little town, with some spacious houses in the north and a bustling village of wooden huts to the south. Overnight at Hotel Baobab (midrange).
Days 11-12: Morombe-Andavadoaka. Drive from Morombe to Andavadoaka. Andavadoaka is a small village of fisherman, one of best place to relax in this south western area. It is highly recommended for its lovely white sand beach. Overnight at Manga Lodge (midrange and top).
Day 13: Andavadoaka-Ifaty. Leave Andavadoaka to Ifaty. Ifaty, a quiet coastal fishing village is popular for its long beach and its offshore coral reef and its diving center. Overnight at Ikotel or Ifaty Beach (midrange); Hotel Dunes (top) or Hotel le Paradisier (top).
Day 14-15: Ifaty-Isalo. Leave Ifaty to Ranohira. Arrive in Ranohira, the small village near Isalo National Park. Isalo National Park is covered of 81 540 hectares of the eroded Jurassic sandstone of the same name. Isalo’s topography is characterized by alternating flat grassy plains and sandstone ridges sculpted by wind and water into fanciful shapes. Visit at the park: monkey canyon, natural swimming pool. Overnight at Orchidée (midrange) or Relais de la Reine or Jardin du Roy (top).
Days 16-19: Isalo-Andringitra. Drive from Ranohira to Ambalavao and continue to Andringitra National Park. Andringitra is one of most attractive park because it has fabulous landscape form of rock hills with such lovely waterfalls and beautiful plants. Go trekking up until you reach the peak Bobby, the second highest peak in Madagascar. Camping (full board) and Gite Lodge (Homestay) for two nights.
Day 20-21: Andringitra-Ranomafana. Leave Andringitra to Ranomafana National Park passing by Fianarantsoa. Ranomafana Natioanal Park is home to 20 species of mammals, 12 species of lemurs and about 100 species of birds. Visit the park and relax at the hot spring swimming pool. Overnight at Centr’est (top) or Hotel Manja (midrange comfort).
Day 22: Ranomafana-Ambositra. After breakfast, morning visit in the park to spot the famous Golden Bamboo lemur, Greater Bamboo and many species of birds such as the Pitta-like ground roller, Velvet Asity, and different species of reptiles including the leaf-tailed gecko. After the visit, direct drive to Ambositra which is the center of Malagasy woodcarving. Overnight at Hotel l’Artisan (midrange and top) or Hotel Violette (high-midrange).
Day 23-24: Ambositra-Andasibe. Early morning drive to go to Andasibe National Park which is home to the biggest lemur Indri. Overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge (top) or Feon’ny Ala (midrange).
Day 25: Andasibe-Tana. Andasibe is a rain forest national park which is covered of 810 ha. We start the day walking in the forest of Indri and also to spot many species of birds (112 recorded) and reptiles. After the walk, we continue driving back to Tana. While arriving in Tana, afternoon city tour to see the ruined Rova (Queen’s palace) and the former Prime Minister Palace which is currently a museum. On the top of the hill, it is a good view to see quite the whole town of Tana. One night at Anjary Hotel (midrange) or at Palissandre (top) before early transfer to the airport to fly back home.
