January is a wonderful time to visit the South – the scenery is lush green, the weather pleasant and our trip coincides with the joyous harvest festival of Pongal.
Sacred multi-walled temple cities house gods and goddesses, bathing tanks, thousand-pillared dancing halls. We will have special access to one of the most incredible temples in the South.
We will board deluxe houseboats on the Kerala “backwaters,” a unique ecosystem of fresh and saline waterways formed as rivers flowing down from the mountains meet the sea.
We’ll explore Periyar National Park by boat and on foot.
The heritage town of Fort Cochin and the little-known towns of Chettinad open a window onto a life gone by.
We’ll learn all about spices on a Kerala plantation and watch classical dance against the magnificent backdrop of the rock carvings of ancient Mamallapuram.
Visit the magnificent Shiva temple cave on Elephanta Island.
And more...
