The Atlas Mountains are a mountain range across a northern stretch of Africa extending about 2 ,400 km (1,500 miles) through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The highest peak is Jbel Toubkal, with an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 ft) in southwestern Morocco. Morocco is the land that shares the Sahara desert with the mountains of the High Atlas and is positively packed to the brim with an exciting mix of Arabian culture and high adventure. The Atlas ranges separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert.
The population of the Atlas Mountains are mainly Berber Tribes in Morocco and Kabyles in Algeria. The mountains are or were home to a number of plant and animal species unique in Africa (more like those of Europe) many of them are endangered. We will trek through these ancient mountains and after climbing to the summit of Jebel Toubkal (13,667 ft.) we will spend a couple days exploring the markets and sights of Marrakech before returning home.
