Day 6: Sahambavy - Isalo
It takes almost the whole day to drive to Isalo (National Park of Isalo). Isalo National Park is covered of 81 540 hectare of the eroded Jurassic sandstone massif. Isalo's topography is characterized by alternating flat grassy plains and sandstone ridges, sculpted by wind and water into fanciful shapes. Isalo is the most visited park in Madagascar; the main things to see in the park are lemurs such as the Verreaux’s Sifaka, different bird species as well. Also, there are lots of Pachypodium (elephant foot); rock formations such as the Queen Elizabeth one; natural swimming pool, and window (fenêtre) for sun set and water fall. Overnight at Orchidée ou au Relais de la Reine/ Jardin du Roy (top).
Day 7: Isalo
In the morning, we are going in the park of Isalo. We will go the Namaza trail to spot few species of lemurs such as the Verreaux’s Sifaka, Red-fronted brown lemur and different species of birds like the Benson’s rock thrush which is endemic in the area. And then, we continue our walk relaxing at the natural swimming pool and walk back to the hotel. Overnight at Relais de la Reine/Jardin du Roy (top). Hotel Orchidée (midrange).
Days 8-10: Isalo - Domaine d’Ambola
This day, we are going to Domaine d’Ambola where it is the finest beach and has beautiful coral reefs to spot fish in the ocean. Leave Ranohira in the morning and we will pass through many species of Baobabs, the famous tombs of Mahafaly tribe which are very decorated and unique in the south-western part of the region. And just before the turn off for Beheloka, there is a good stand of spiny forest; then continue to the Natural Reserve of Tsimanampetsotsa.
This is a large shallow lake. The reserve’s main attractions are 70 species of birds, including plovers, couas, rock thrushes and flamingos, as well as its large population of ring-tailed lemurs. Leave Faux Cap and drive to Berenty in a bumpy road. In the area, there are species of plants which serve as habitat for a variety of wildlife.
