The concept of agrotourism is a direct expansion of ecotourism and it is defined as tourism in which tourists board at farms or in rural villages and experience farming at close hand. Our proposed trip is for wine and culinary lovers who also want to experience the agrotourism and local culture.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Majorca
Pick up at the airport and private transportation to the agrotourism accomodation. Dinner at accommodation learning the authentic tastes of traditional cuisine. The result of a complex history of ancestral civilizations gaining sway and yielding to one another, Mallorcan cuisine offers one a taste of all the cultures that have shaped its personality. Thus variety is one of its hallmarks. Island cuisine abounds in rich vegetable courses, exquisite seafood creations, and splendid meat dishes.
Accommodation description Oliver Moragues: The winery OM Oliver Moragues is located in the old mallorquinish Possessió known as Binicomprat, which is surrounded with 150 Hectars of forests and vineyards. The house was bought by the family Oliver Moragues in 1511 and nowadays the guests can stay at the fully equipped bungalows, as well as participate in the different wine activities. If the view from the house is a forest and the Cura mountain, behind it are located the seven hectars of vineyars, from which are the organic wines produced.
Day 2: Wine Tour
Breakfast at accommodation. A local guide will pick up you at the hotel to enjoy a full day wine tour thought the island. Day will consist on visiting 2 wine cellars including a guided visit and wine tasting. Lunch will be also offered in a traditional place. The Balearic Islands have been making wine all through the ages. The different civilizations that have passed through the islands brought with them knowledge about wine making, which is currently enjoying a revival. There are two appellations of origin in Majorca: Pla i Llevant where the vineyards lie in the flat, chalky central and eastern areas of the island, which offer optimum soil conditions. The first vintages to have emerged suggest an interesting potential for powerful Mediterranean wines and Binissalem located at the centre of the island. Wineries visited depending on availability: Pere Seda, Jaume Mesquida, Miquel Oliver, Armero i Adrover, Miquel Gelabert... Free dinner.
Day 3: Cultural journey
Breakfast at accommodation. Private transportation to Palma de Majorca. The origins of the city can be traced back to before Roman times, and in even today inhabitants of homes in the old quarter are often still discovering Roman remains less than a metre beneath the ground. Day will consist on a 4 hours guided tour through the city and a free lunch in the Palma harbour. Back to accommodation and dinner.
What to visit Almudia Palace and the Cathedral:
The Almudaina Palace was originally built as an Arab fortress, however, following the conquest of the island in the 14th Century by King James, it became the official Majorcan residence of the Spanish Royal Family. The work was undertaken on behalf of the King, by Pere Salvŕ who was also responsible for building the Bellver Castle.
The Cathedral of Mallorca, which is also known locally as La Seu, is an impressive Gothic style building that was built over a 300 hundred year period during the 14th to 17th Century. Although it has to be said that much of the facade was actually rebuilt during the 19th Century after an earthquake destroyed part of its western front.
