Amazing sceneries over the Mediterranean sea and the Pyrenees, ending in the Natural Park of Garrotxa. In Garrotxa there are the volcanoes better preserved in the Iberic Peninsula. Romanesque churches, in-land gastronomy, rich nature an itinerary to discover an area full of contrasts.
Level: Medium-Low 11,34 – 17,89km per day with an unevenness of 800m max. Some parts of the path are already indicated.
Luggage: leave it in the reception of the hotel and we will transfer it to your new accommodation after walking.
Accommodation: 3* hotels and agro tourism with charm.
Recommended Period: All year.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Beuda. Arrival to Besalú by bus, we pick you up and bring you to the village of Beuda to your first accommodation, this is an agro tourism house which is the old county school. In the house you will find the road book, map and information about the area. Dinner included.
Day 2: Beuda-Beuda 14,55km/4 ¼h. Choose between the two options: 1) you go up to the top of the mount “Mare de Déu del Mont” where there is a Sanctuary and an excellent view point over the Empordà area. 2) you have a lighter and more cultural itinerary towards Besalú where you can visit the medieval town and walk back via Beuda. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 3: Beuda-Oix 14,86km/4 ½h. Breakfast. Today we start with a transfer to the village of Tortellà from where starts the walking. You will go over the medieval bridge of Llierca and then up to Santa Barbara mountain. Optionally you can go to the top of the mountain where there is the Santa Barbara Romanesque church and from where you have excellent views over the High Garrotxa mountains. Dinner at the agro tourism house.
Day 4: Oix-Oix 14,89km/4 ½h. After breakfast, you to go around the mountain of Bestracà, located in a geological fault. You will pass Oix, a small village with a Romanesque church. Then up to Sant Andreu del Bestracà. Along this route there are panoramic views of almost 270º. On the second half of the itinerary we will go around the mountain to see the Pyrenean views and the Alta Garrotxa Mountains. Dinner and accommodation in the agro tourism house.
Day 5: Oix - Olot 16,64km/4 ¾h. After breakfast, leave your luggage at reception. On this route we move from the Pyrenean to volcanic area. From Oix you go up to Toix where there was a cruel pitched battle during the Independence war. After the walk, you arrive to the village of Sant Joan les Fonts, with an impressive Romanesque bridge. Here, take public transport to Olot. Also if you wish to walk a little bit more you have 4,85km, 1h25 to get to Olot. Accommodation in 3* hotel in Olot. Dinner is not included.
Day 6: Olot-Olot 17,89 km/5hrs 15m. Breakfast. Tour around the volcanic area. You will visit the exuberant forest of “Fageda d’en Jordà” grown on the lava of the Croscat and Santa Margarida volcanoes. We will go back to Olot passing by a path between volcanic stone walls. Accommodation in the 3* hotel. Dinner not included.
Day 7: Olot – Joanetes 11,34km/3 h20. After breakfast, leave your luggage at reception. On this path we will walk along the old railway track Olot-Girona, now converted into a greenway. Most of this tour passes the valley “Vall d’en Bas” which was a lake in times of volcano eruptions. From the village of Les Preses you will walk through fields until you reach the last accommodation. Dinner included. You have fulfilled the itinerary!!
Day 8: Joanetes. After breakfast, check out.
Optional Extension of the Tour (not included in the price):
Day 8: Joanetes-Joanetes 13,64km/3h50. Breakfast. This circular tour goes through a flat land of 800-900m high and has a cliff of 50m. You will walk along an oak forest until reaching the old Romanesque castle of Sant Miquel. The second half of the track keeps on alpine fields up to the village of Falgars; from where you go back down to the valley. Dinner included.
Day 9.- Joanetes. After breakfast, check out.
Optional:
- 2 nights in Barcelona: Hotel 2* located in the city center, in bed and breakfast. Transfers from Girona to Barcelona or from Barcelona to the Airport are not included.
- Meals: Half board, except two days on bed and breakfast basis.
