Tour Irinerary:
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut. After the breakfast transfer to Marangu park Gate which is at 1800 meters high and fairly easy 3-4 hrs walk through thick rain forest to Mandara Hut at for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. After the breakfast walk slowly following a track through the forest and then savannah bush to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Acclimatize Day Horombo to Mawenzi. This is a day of acclimatization you will have to rest and explore the crater around Horombo Hut, giving you time to acclimatize to the high altitude. This will increase your chance of making it to the top. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. This is hard day climb to Kibo Hut where the hike takes approximately 6-7 hrs crossing the barren sub-alpine terrain of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. You will need to rest on arrival as the next stage begins shortly after midnight.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to the Summit down to Horombo Hut. Start at around 1:00 am. Follow the path up the mountain stopping regularly to catch breath in the starlight air. This is the steepest and most demanding section of the climb, five hours to the Gillman’s Point to view the sunrise behind Mawenzi illuminating the plain. The walk a further 45 minutes around the crater and up to the highest point, Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa Thereafter, descend to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. After the breakfast, then walk down through Mandara Hut then Marangu Gate, collect your certificate and then drive back to Moshi or Arusha town.
