Day 1: Momella Gate (1500 m) - Miriakamba (2500 m). Clients spend a first night at Miriakamba Hut (2500 m). From Momella gate to Miriakamba there are two routes: Southern and Northern route. Southern route (by road) takes 5 hours walk from Momella gate to Miriakamba accommodation center. Through this route clients have chance to see almost all mammals found in the forest including Hornbill, Hartlaub’s, Turaco and birds of prey. Northern route, takes 3-4 hours from the gate of Momella to Miriakamba accommodation center. This is the shorter and steepest route. Along this route the views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Momella lakes are spectacular. Common mammals along this route are Cape buffalo, Maasai giraffe, Warthogs and Bushbuck. Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba hut. Day 2: Miriakamba - Saddle. It takes 3-4 hours of ascending. Along this portion of the route clients enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Momella lakes, Meru crater, Ash cone, Mountain Meru cliff and the little Meru. Through the forest, common animals include Buffalos, Bushbuck, Elephant and Black and white Colobus Monkey. Dinner and overnight at Saddle hut. Day 3: Saddle Hut – Momella Gate. The start for the summit is made early in the morning around 01:30 am. After reaching the summit at (4566 m) clients do walk all the way back to Momella gate via Miriakamba hut, where you will find your transport to take you back to town. End of the trek.
