Each district has its own source of income and the occupants of the districts their own style of life. Sniffing around at Groningen in the district Saramacca brings us back in the time when the Dutch farmers had established themselves and started agriculture. The monuments will speak for themselves on the square befor the Commissioner’s office. In the coconut district named Coronie we see the many coconuts which welcome us and the many water birds on the mud backs when the sea has it lowest level. In Wageningen we have the monument of Alida a famous slave and Nickerie gives us a illustration how the cultivation of rice is and how the paddy is milled.
