Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Departure from your hotels after breakfast at 08.30hrs. We drive to Makasutu Cultural Forest. Makasutu a Palm forest situated on the banks of a beautiful meandering tributary of The Gambia River, encompassing many different eco-systems including dense forest, savanna and mangrove regions. The area is a home for a variety of birds, monkeys, monitor lizards, pygmy deer, man goose and if lucky you will catch a glimpse of baboons. A canoe trip is organized and a guided nature walks. There is also a chance to observe traditional bush people going on their daily business, palm wine tapers, and local fishermen and the women collecting oysters from the mangrove. Lunch is provided after the walk and the canoe trip whilst traditional drumming and dancing is enjoyed under the Baobab tree. This is a real African Experience. From Makasutu, driving continues to Sindola Safari Lodge, which is situated in Kanilai, the birth village of the President of The Republic of The Gambia. The Lodge is situated in a beautiful environment with a lot of sport facilities. Dinner and overnight at the Sindola Safari Lodge. Day 2: After breakfast, an early start driving continues to Tendaba Camp, which is situated at the river side of the Kiang West National Park. On arrival in Tendaba, a boat trip is organized in the mangroves for 1 ½ hours where a lot of birds could be seen resting on the high mangrove trees in the area.. After the boat trip, lunch will be served. After lunch we will drive to Bwiam a lively village in the western division. It is 62 km away from Brikama our next destination. Bwiam has approximately 3700 inhabitants. You will meet the people of the village during a village walk and we will arrange a real Gambian ‘Ataya (tea) ceremony’ for you. Dinner and overnight at Bwiam lodge. During your trip to Makasutu you have the choice of visiting the craft market where carvings, sculptures, materials and other African artifacts can be seen and purchased. Day 3: After breakfast, start driving towards Brikama and visit the local market with all its articles. Observe the busy people selling and buying their food in the morning. After we stop at the crafts Market, which is the best in hands and craft production. Brikama is the 3rd largest town in The Gambia. From the market, driving continues to Lamin Lodge. At this beautiful wooden Lodge, standing on stilts over the creek in middles of the mangroves you will enjoy your lunch. The monkeys will join you and birds can be observed.
