Tour Itinerary:
First stop - Capriana Monastery. In a picturesque forest area, only 40km north - west of Chisinau, lies Capriana Convent – one of the oldest in Moldova (1429). For a long period of time it was the headquarters of Moldova’s bishop. It was founded by great Moldovan Ruler, Stefan the Great. Originally it was constructed completely from wood, later, in 1545, a church for the summer period called "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" was built from stone. In 1840 the "St. George" and in 1903 the "St. Nicolae" churches were built. The biggest convent library in Moldova was situated here in Capriana, it was endowed with precious gifts by different leaders. Closed and dilapidated during the post-war period, it was only reopened again in 1989. We will continue our discovery with the „Milestii Mici” winery. The Quality Wines Industrial Complex “Milestii Mici” has taken its worthy place within the tourist program of the state. Having its particular beauty, this natural wine deposit – the largest in the world – appeared in the lime galleries at a depth of 40-85 meters in the seventies of the last century. The wines stored here are made of various years’ crops, beginning with the 1968 to 1991. You can pass by car these 200 km of natural lime galleries. The constant temperature of 12 - 14 ºC and the humidity of 85-95% of this “kingdom of wine” ideally contribute to the preservation of the Moldavian strategic stocks. Up to now here continue to arrive selected wine materials from all over Moldova. The “Golden Collection” of Milestii Mici contains over two million bottles of harmonious wines dating from the period of Moldavian wine making prosperity “Pinot”, “Traminer”, “Muscat”, “Riesling”, “Feteasca”, “Codru”, “Negru de Purcari”, “Trandafirul Moldovei”, “Auriu” and others. The Milestii Mici wine was repeatedly awarded. Our last discovery is an ostrich farm. You find yourself between ostriches, Vietnamese pigs, ponies riding all around and a large variety of birds. This is not Savanna, the place is only 12 km. from Cishinau, in Bardar. The farm opened eight years ago and nowadays we can admire not only ostriches but also mustangs, ponies, mini-sheep, mini-goats, peacocks, quails, hens, pheasants, pigeons, ducks and graceful black swans.
