Option 1:
We start at 8:00 a.m. at the town of Chaupi, known for its cowboys. We then take the travel by horseback toward the Ilinizas Refuge located at 4700 meters (approximately four hours depending on experience). Upon reaching 4300 meters, we encounter a steeper climb. You will have the option of continuing on foot or, if possible, on horse. We will have lunch at the Jose Riveras Refuge. After lunch, we return on horse to La Virgen parking lot. Depending on time and weather conditions there will either be a car waiting or we will continue all the way down to Chaupi via horseback. Option 2: We start at 8:00 a.m. in the town of Chaupi, where we will head towards the small town of Pastocalle (5 to 6 hours away depending on experience), and at an altitude of 3300 or 10827 feet. There we will arrive at Llamahuasi base-camp for lunch at an altitude of 3100 meters or 19171 feet, perfect for acclimatization. On the route we will travel along the road of the Chagras (cowboys) where, with luck, we shall see wild bulls. If we have time, we may be able to travel to the natural thermal springs (altitude: 4000 m/13123 ft) on horse in the afternoon after lunch (approximately two and a half hours round trip).
