Day 1, 13th February: Arrive Bangalore and transfer to the hotel. Morning, you arrive in Bangalore, the bustling yet mystical capital city of Karnataka. On arrival, we transfer to your hotel. The remainder of this first day is yours to relax and explore your surrounding at your own pace. This evening, a traditional evening welcome dinner at an authentic South Indian restaurant. Day 2, 14th February: In Bangalore
Morning, we take a memorable trip to the famous vineyards in Bangalore as it increasingly gains international acclaim as a supplier of fine wines to the world. Later guided tour of the Bangalore city. This afternoon enjoy your first introduction to the art of authentic Indian cuisine with an exclusive culinary class specially created for us by a local chef. This class is a fantastic introduction to South India’s diverse cuisine and all its regional variations. A special culinary evening awaits you as you meet our special celebrity chef Atul Kochhar, for the first of his special introductions to his style of fusion cuisine. Overnight at your hotel. Day 3, 15th February: Bangalore to Cochin
This morning fly to Cochin, a historic city formed of a cluster of islands and narrow peninsulas. Once a great spice trading centre, it’s a meeting point for many of the world’s cultures. On arrival in Cochin, we transfer to your hotel. Afternoon free for you to explore the local town at your own pace. This evening, enjoy a sunset cruise before another special culinary evening with our celebrity chef who would his secrets behind his famous fish curry! Overnight at your hotel. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 4, 16th February: In Cochin
Today following breakfast, you’ll take a fascinating tour of Cochin city - the gateway to Kerala with one of the finest natural harbours in the world. In this city with an ancient charm, we visit the oldest church in India, a 16th c Jewish synagogue still in use, see cantilevered Chinese fishing nets and narrow streets jammed with 500 year old Portuguese houses; all blended in to the tropical Malabar coast. In the afternoon, you may join our celebrity chef for local spice shopping. In the evening, special guest chef, Atul Kochhar will introduce you further to some culinary delights of the region- preparing wonderful traditional recipes with a modern twist- his style! Day 5, 17th February: Cochin to Alleppey
Today, you’ll leave Cochin for Alleppey, the gateway to the inland maze of canals, lagoons and lakes collectively known as the Backwaters. Known as the Venice of the East for its myriad of canals and bridges, its also renowned for coconuts. Afternoon at leisure to explore the rural picturesque life at your own pace. This evening we meet again for a masterclass with our celebrity chef, Atul Kochhar as he reveals the essence of Indian cooking and mixing the exotic spices. Join in and prepare a South Indian meal under the expertise and attention of Atul Kochhar. Overnight at your hotel. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 6, 18th February: Alleppey to Houseboat
Today, you’ll board our private houseboats, known as Kettuvallams. With carpets, deck chairs and bedrooms, they're equipped with everything you need including your personal local Chef who would assist you at the houseboat. We'll wind our way through the tranquil backwaters, passing fishing boats and curious villagers. Along the way, we'll stop at a fishing village where you can help your local chef haggle for fresh seafood and produce. Your cruise takes you through the ‘rice bowl’ of Kerala with rice fields and lush greenery surrounding you. Later, we'll relax on the deck sipping chilled drinks as the aroma of the amazing Kerala delicacies wafts over from the galley. That evening, we'll drop anchor in the middle of the lake to spend one of the most peaceful nights ever. Overnight on board houseboat. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7, 19th February: Disembark houseboat and stay at Kumarakom
We’ll leave our houseboat on arrival in Kumarakom, an idyllic floating island on Vembanad Lake, surrounded by coconut trees, paddy fields and mangroves. Today the day is yours to relax and discover local delights including the nearby Kumarakom bird sanctuary with its spectactular collection of resident and migratory birds. If you wish you can go fishing, enjoy an Ayurvedic massage or swim in the clear waters. In the evening our celebrity Chef Atul Kochhar will share an interesting insight into fusion cuisine as you savour his Keralan curry in the serene backwater backdrop. Get hands on experience in creating the mouth-watering Keralan curry or chutney under the expertise and attention of Atul Kochhar. Overnight at the your lake facing resort. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 8, 20th February: In Kumarakom
Today you get joined by our special celebrity chef, Atul Kochhar to visit the local Plantation Bungalow, nestled amongst hills and home to acres of spices, coffee and pineapple. Trek through the plantations and see how coffee is picked and spices are cultivated before enjoying a typical Syrian lunch. Don’t forget to take some spicy tips from Atul as you visit the spice land. Later return to your hotel to freshen up as another flavorsome evening awaits you. In the evening our celebrity chef shares his culinary secrets to combine the aromatic spices and create the finest fish masala cakes or samosas- all Indian style! Overnight at your hotel. Day 9, 21st February: Kumarakom to Periyar
Today we drive to Perivar Tiger Reserve, along winding road rich in scenic charm and bio-diversity. Here in the Cardamom Hills, our home for the next two evenings, are a rare, endemic and endangered flora and fauna and forms the major watershed of the Perivar and Pamba rivers. This afternoon, take a boat ride on Perivar Lake to see wildlife at the reserve and later visit the spice market at Kumilv. You might want to shop for some spices to create your own curry to hone your newly acquired skills, once you are back home. Spices have lured traders, pirates and adventurers to these hills for centuries, and today we follow in their footsteps. In the evening, a spicy and aromatic culinary evening with our celebrity chef, Atul Kochhar as he prepares simple and delicious recipes with the local produce and local spices. Overnight at your hotel. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 10, 22nd February: In Periyar
Early this morning, your Indian culinary adventure takes you on a guided hike through the forest. Your guide, a naturalist, will tell you about the protection and preservation of the native tiger, flora and fauna before you board our boat for a scenic journey through the lake. Then its off to a journey through coffee and spice plantations. You will learn the story behind every container of cardamom, vanilla bean, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon that you see in the supermarket. Relax before dinner, you may use the afternoon to sleep off your meal, wander around town shopping for spices, or re-enter the sanctuary for a short hike. This exciting day ends with a special culinary voyage and farewell drinks with our guest chef, Atul Kochhar. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 11, 23rd February: Periyar to Munnar
Higher into the mountains we go, at 5000 feet above sea level, to the tiny town of Munnar which is home to the world’'s highest tea-growing estates. Here you'll spend two nights in our beautiful cottages on a cardamom plantation, set among 66 acres of remote wilderness. You can spend the afternoon visiting local attractions like Eravikulam National Park, keeping an eye out for the famous Nilgiri Tahr mountain goat. Tonight, feast under a blanket of stars in candlelight- a complimentary dinner hosted by Indian Odyssey. Overnight at your hotel. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 12, 24th Feburary: In Munnar. Today entire day at leisure in this hilly town to take in all the captivating sights of Munnar; enjoy a massage; wander into town and soak up the atmosphere. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 13, 25th February: Munnar to Cochin. This morning after breakfast, you will drive to Cochin for your final evening on your Indian culinary tour. On arrival, you check into your hotel- Le Meridien. Tonight witness the famous colorful Kathakali dancers, the traditional dance form of Kerala. End your day with a exclusive farewell dinner hosted by Indian Odyssey for all group members- your last chance to exchange notes and contacts because you might want to know back home- who got the curry just perfect.
Day 14, 26th February: Depart Cochin. We end our memorable gourmet & culture tour as we transfer to the airport in time to board your return flight. Take home- recipes, memories and flavours - all Indian style!
