Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Knoxville Arrival. Arrive in Knoxville and transfer to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 2: Knoxville - Asheville. This morning you will pick up your motorcycle and are off on a ride that will bring you lots of good vibes and you will encounter the most beautiful road ever built. Soak in the best America has to offer as you cruise during the peak riding seasons of spring and fall. From Knoxville you head southeast on Hwy 441, which takes you right towards the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You enter at Gatlinburg and ride the Newfound Gap Road (Hwy 441). The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most popular park in the United States and it offers a taste of wilderness to some nine million visitors annually. The park covers 520,460 acres along the 6,000-foot high crest of the Smoky Mountains, so named for the fogs that fill the deep valleys. Before the park was established its lands were extensively logged – 70 percent of the trees had been clearcut by 1934, when the lands were protected as a National Park. Fortunately, the forests have grown back to obscure any sign of past degradations, and the uncut portions form the most extensive stands of primeval forests in the eastern United States. Newfoundland gap road takes you to Cherokee, where a few Cherokee managed to hang on when the tribe was “removed” along the trail of tears to Oklahoma in 1838. Continue on hwy 19 to Asheville, a beautiful historic mountain resort with an appealing 1920’s downtown core. Overnight.

Day 3: Asheville - Mt. Airy. While in Asheville you might want to visit the Vanderbilt family’s Biltmore Estate, the world’s biggest vacation house, which is a testament to Asheville’s primary position in the resort pantheon. The place really is far beyond anything you can imagine. From Asheville you head northeast and enter the Blue Ridge Parkway – you are in for an unforgettable ride! It will take you less than a millisecond to ease back into the feel of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Head up to Blowing Rock, which makes a perfect base to explore the larger than life mountains that surround it. Take some time – don’t rush - and enter the forests there, climb the hills and make sure to ride the sublime mountain roads. From blowing rock you head towards Mount Airy. The road continues smooth and flowing, there are nice straights for relaxation, but it’s never boring, never threatening. The speed limit is 45 mph, the perfect speed to experience everything. The Blue Ridge Parkway represents “the golden age of road building”, scenic overlooks appear every few miles, it’s free of commercial traffic, business and billboards – you only have to pay attention to the dogwoods and evergreens, the meadows, glades and stone bridges. Along the Virginia/North Carolina border, 12 miles southeast of the parkway you will get to mount airy, a sleepy North Carolina town, which is the boyhood home of Andy Griffith. Despite being such a small town, there is a surprising amount to experience in mount airy…not thrilling, not magnificent…just American. You do want to ride your bike downtown and inhale an intriguing blend of fantasy and reality here. Overnight.

Day 4: Mt. Airy - Middlesboro. From Mount Airy you head west today. Take Hwy 52 north for a few miles and then enter Hwy 58 (421), which will take you all the way to Middleboro. You ride the southern part of Mount Rogers National Recreation Area – named for Mount Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia at 5,729 feet above sea level. You head further west and will come to the tristate border of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Make sure to stop at the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, which is one of the most visited parts of the area. Throughout the ages, poets, songwriters, novelists, journal writers, historians and artists have captured the grandeur of the Cumberland Gap. A natural passageway used by migrating deer and bison, the area served as a gateway to the west for Daniel Boone and other pioneers. From here it’s just a few miles to Middlesboro, where you overnight.

Day 5: Middlesboro - Nashville. From Middleboro you ride southwest, take Hwy 27 and you are back in Tennessee. Tennessee is a state that’s less open to easy generalization than most Southern states. The history and traditional culture of the Great Smoky Mountains are a far cry indeed from the blue-soaked, cotton-picking culture of the Mississippi Valley, while the more prosperous central region between the two, focused on the state capital, Nashville, is different once again. At Elgin you enter Hwy 52, ride all the way to Westmoreland and here take Route 31, your road into Nashville. Nashville is set amid gentle hills and fertile farmlands and is home to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. Overnight.

Day 6: Nashville - Chattanooga. From Nashville you head south, take Hwy 41 towards Chattanooga. En route you might want to go on a little detour and visit the Jack Daniels Distillery…at Shelbyville, enter Hwy 231 to get to Lynchburg, home to Jack Daniels Distillery. Founded in 1866, this is the oldest registered distillery in the country. There is an entertaining 70-minute tour available that leads you through every step of the sour-mash whiskey-making process – check it out! Lynchburg itself is a pretty hamlet, laid out around a neat town square with a red brick courthouse and a number of old-fashioned stores. Head back to Hwy 41 and you are on your way to Chattanooga. The name Chattanooga comes from a Greek word meaning “rock rising to a point” – the rock in question here is 2215 ft Lookout Mountain, which looms six miles south of downtown. To reach the top you can either ride the whole way along a complicated, poorly signposted road, or you can catch the world’s steepest incline railway. At Point Lookout you can enjoy a not-to-be-missed view of the city and the meandering Tennessee River below. You overnight in Chattanooga, a very picturesque town that holds much appeal for visitors. Overnight.

Day 7: Chattanooga - Knoxville. From Chattanooga you are back on the road to Knoxville – take Hwy 75 and enjoy your ride through eastern Tennessee, where life has remained all but unchanged in the remote hills and valleys since the arrival of the earliest pioneers – endless expanse of beauty, wherever you look! Once you made it back to Knoxville, it’s time to return your motorcycle and transfer back to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 8: Knoxville Departure. Today your exciting trip will end with your departure flight back home.
