Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, explore the city and environs, stay the night at a hotel in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Day 2: Travel by coach transfer to the Port of Korsakov, where you will be met by your expedition team, welcomed onboard and depart for Kunashir Island. Day 3: Explore the Kurilsky Zapvednik (Reserve) on Kunashir Island, this is one of the largest Nature Reserves in the Kuril Islands and you will be joined by local Rangers as you explore the area. Day 4: Iturup Island, explore the highlands of Iturup by local transport. Day 5: Chirpoy Island, here is our first taste of the rich seabird diversity that this region has to offer. We will zodiac cruise the coastal cliffs for sea-bird colonies before landing to explore the island. Day 6: Simushir Island, a flooded caldera that was a former submarine base. In the afternoon we will experience Yankicho Island, ornithological wonder of the world, home to thousands of Crested & Whiskered Auklets. Day 7: Recently erupted Matua Island and the surrounding islands provide a great opportunity for observing and photographing seabird colonies. Day 8: Onekotan and Paramushir Islands are two of the northern islands in the Kuril Island chain, we have the opportunity of an extended walk in search for migratory species and wild flowers Day 9: Vestnik Bay (Ostrov Utashad), zodiac cruise the unique wildlife rich islands within the Bay area, home to thousands of seabirds, seals and sea otters. Day 10: Zodiac the Zhupanova River in search of the Steller’s Sea Eagle. Days 11-12: Commander Islands, steeped in history and rich in wildlife, species include Red-legged Kittiwake, Rock Sand-piper, Tufted and Horned Puffins, Pigeon, Common and Brunnich’s Guillemots, Steller Sealions and many other species. Day 13: Relax at sea as we set a course for Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and cross over some marine mammal rich oceans along the way. Day 14: Arrive at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and disembark.
