Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta airport, you will be met and assisted. Transfer to your hotel at the city outskirts. Overnight at Safari Park Hotel BB.
Day 2: Mt Kenya
After breakfast, drive North to Mount Kenya. Drive to Rutundu which is situated on the northern slopes of Mt. Kenya at 10,200 feet, just above the forest line. These log cabins overlook Lake Rutundu in total privacy, surrounded by alpine vegetation. Lake Rutundu and Lake Alice, both a scenic hike from the cabins, are stocked with rainbow trout, averaging 2-3 pounds, with the larger fish weighing 6 pounds. Not many people can say they’ve caught a trout within 5 km of the equator! There are three casting platforms and a boat/punt, as well as plenty of keen and experienced hands to help you. Day 3: Mt Kenya
Today, enjoy hiking and fishing on Lake Alice. There is a beautiful walk around Lake Alice, through Giant Groundsel and heather forests. In contrast to this moorland terrain, the Cedar and Podo forest, a half hour drive below Rutundu, provides lovely walks and picnic sites. Nearby, the Kizita River Gorge offers a crystal clear river, with small brown trout. All meals and overnight at Lake Rutundu Cabins BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 4: Samburu
After breakfast, drive to Samburu National Reserve. Samburu came to international limelight in the early 2000 when a lioness adopted two Oryx babies, each at different times, akin to the Biblical Garden of Eden. Remote and rugged, this reserve provides some of the most colorful photography and unique game viewing in the country. Lunch will be served at your lodge. After a brief afternoon rest enjoy tour first game drive. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 5: Samburu
Spend early morning and afternoon game viewing drives in this reserve which covers 40 square miles (104 square kilometres). Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to our game viewing, as we search the unique game only found north of the equator; straight-horned Beisa Oryx antelope, long-necked Gerenuk gazelle, Blue legged Somali ostrich and the grevy zebra, the dirty brown Ewaso Nyiro River is dotted with doum palms and meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting. All meals at Samburu Lodge.
Day 6: Aberdare. After breakfast, you proceed to Nyeri and pick up by Kenya Wildlife vehicle to Aberdare. You will have a care taker for cooking and any other needs. Afternoon fishing at the cold Guru-Karuru, and Chania River. Dinner and overnight at Aberdare Fishing lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 7: Aberdare. Day spent on fishing. All meals and overnight at Aberdare Fishing lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 8: Lake Baringo. After breakfast, depart and drive to Nyeri where you will rejoin your safari driver. Proceed via Nyahururu to the Lake Baringo arriving for lunch. Afternoon boat trip to Ol Kokwe Island for afternoon fishing. Dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo Country Club BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 9: Lake Baringo. Day will be spent at the shores of Lake Baringo with fishing. Dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo Country Club BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 10: Naivasha. Depart after breakfast to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous as the home to thousands of lesser and greater flamingo. This park also provides sanctuary for Rothschild giraffe, rhino and leopard. Game drive and lunch at the park. Afternoon drive to Naivasha. Time permitting have game drive at the Malewa conservancy or fishing at Malewa River. Dinner and overnight at Malewa River lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 11: Naivasha. Day spent at Malewa conservancy with rage of activities. Fishing, nature walks, biking, game drives and bush breakfast and lunch if weather permitting. Dinner and overnight at Malewa River lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 12: Masai Mara. Morning will be fishing at Malewa river. Lunch and afternoon drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. Afternoon game drive on the way to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Keekorok lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 13: Masai Mara. Day spent game-viewing in the reserve with early morning and afternoon game drives. All meals and overnight at Keekorok lodge BB. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 14: Nairobi. Early morning game drive. Drive to Nairobi, Kenya's colorful capital city. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta airport for your homeward flight or beach extension.
Notes:
- Lake Rutundu Log Cabins: The Lake Rutundu Log Cabins are situated in a remarkable setting on Mount Kenya. This is an unusual opportunity of fly fishing for rainbow trout at a height of 10,000 ft. The cabins are built in the original style of log cabins with moss filling the gaps between the logs and bitumen on the roof. Sheepskin rugs and open fires ensure a cosy warm atmosphere at night. Two cabins sleep four people comfortably but there is room for more. Hot water is heated in kuni (wood) boosters using old heather roots for fuel.
- Fishing: The main attraction of Lake Rutundu is the fact that is privately stocked with rainbow trout. The staff at the Cabins are also trained gillies and using barbless hooks and a rowing boat, many hours can be spent trying your luck in perfect tranquil conditions. No previous fishing experience is necessary and in fact many visitors come purely to enjoy the unique mountain scenery. Extraordinary walks and additional fishing on the stunning Lake Alice at 12,200 feet make this trip a worthwhile and memorable experience.
- Lake Baringo: In Kenya’s Great Rift Valley is a freshwater lake approximately 22 km long, by 11 kms wide, with an area of 168 sq kms. It is situated at an altitude of 1100 meters but is surrounded by mountains rising to almost 300 meters above the ambient ground level in places. At the northern end of the Lake lies the dormant volcano, Karosi, 1449 meters high.
The water of Lake Baringo is fresh unlike those other Great Rift Valley lakes of Bogoria, Elementeita, Nakuru and Magadi which are "soda lakes." Although it is not known where the water flows out of Lake Baringo, it is reasoned that it must do so as otherwise the water would be subject to a continual process of evaporation, and the Lake would become soda. It may well do so from a submerged crevasse at its northern end, emerging 100 ks north at Karpedda.
As a freshwater Lake it is home to hippos, crocodiles and an abundance of fish and birds, but it does not have flamingos, as these feed on the algae specific to soda lakes. Despite this, it is most famous as an ornithologist's paradise, with 500 bird species, many of which are extremely rare or otherwise only seen in this area.
The climate is warm (25 to 35 degrees) all year round, day and night. While a welcome breeze blows off the Lake in the evenings, the sensation of coldness is practically unknown here. The annual average rainfall is 640 mm, a large proportion of which falls in May-July and a lesser amount in November-December. The people in the vicinity of the Lake are the Tugen and the Il Chamus (or Njempse) with the Pokot living slightly further north, and visiting the area to graze cattle or trade. A few Turkana have migrated to the area. There is very little cultivation owing to the long hot dry season, followed by the habitually violent rains in May, and most inhabitants survive on the grazing of goats, sheep and cattle supplemented by fishing Catfish and Tilapia and harvesting of wild fruits and berries.

- Masai Mara: Justifiably one of the most famous reserves in Africa, its’ dominant feature are the great rolling plains of savannah grasslands, which sustain the greatest variety of wildlife in Africa and indeed in the world. The concentration of game is at its highest from July through October when the Mara is host to the annual migration of more than a million wildebeest. However, game viewing is excellent year round with giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest and Thompson’s gazelle offering a rich choice for the predators lion, leopard and cheetah. It should be noted, however, that during the rainy season, the grass is fairly tall in some areas, which may affect visibility and restrict game drives slightly.
The Maasai people, after whom the park is named, are nomadic. While on game drives, you will often notice young tribesmen herding their cattle amongst the plains game. They are colorfully attired, usually wrapped in bright red cloths, and armed with spears.
