The tour takes you through Fort Jesus (now a national museum) built by the Portuguese in 1593. This fort was the major foothold in East Africa until 1728 when they were driven out by an Afro-Arab siege, the Old Town, with its maze of narrow twisting alleys displaying the beautifully curved doors and verandas.
Biashara Street in Mombasa which in Swahili means “Trade Street” is also an old part of the city where the Indian and Arab merchants set up small authentic shops, a short ride through the center of the town, passing by mosques and Indian temples, before reaching akamba woodcarvers. Then well pass the famous Elephant tusks on Moi Avenue thereafter drop off at your hotel. Notes:
