New Zealand Vacation Package: Southern Splendour (Small Group Tour)

Your Itinerary:

Day 1: Christchurch. Upon arrival in New Zealand at Christchurch International Airport, your guide will meet and take you to your accommodation. Here you will have a chance to rest before your adventure begins and, if time allows, a short sightseeing trip of the city.

Day 2: Christchurch to Oamaru. Travel from Christchurch to Ashburton to visit the Ashford Craft Centre and enjoy light refreshments. Then it's on to historic Oamaru for lunch before we take in the Vanished World of Fossils on the Duntroon fossil trail, visit the otherworldly Elephant Rocks and also visit the film location site of Aslan's Camp of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was filmed, and then settle into Oamaru to our accommodation. Aslan's camp visit is included in the tour price.

Day 3: Oamaru to Dunedin. Your day begins with a visit to the original limestone buildings of Oamaru, then on to the Moeraki Boulders. Once in Dunedin you will heve the opportunity to visit the Cadbury World chocolate factory tour or the Speights Brewery Heritage Tour. In the evening, experience the excitement of the Dunedin Casino, New Zealand's leading boutique casino.

Day 4: Dunedin. Today you have a free day to explore Dunedin. Cruise on the Monarch Wildlife Cruises all-day tour and discover Dunedin's beautiful harbour. Experience albatross, fur seals and other marine mammals, penguins, shags, wading and ocean birds in their natural environment. Or take the Taieri Gorge Railway for spectacular and ever-changing scenery. View examples of Victorian stonework on bridges and tunnels and iron latticework viaducts dating back to the 1880s. Other options are to explore the beautifull buildings in the city, Larnachs Castle, Olveston, The Otago Museum, and Fletcher House just to name a few.

Day 5: Dunedin to Invercargill. From Dunedin we travel to Balclutha and down the Southern Scenic Route, experience the rugged beauty of Curio Bay and the petrified forest, Purakaunui Falls, and the Cathedral Caves.

Day 6: Invercargill to Manapouri. Travelling along the stunning Southern Scenic Route where we will visit small coastal towns, see arts and craft shops, fishing villages and beach walks. Or take the option: A jet boat ride across Lake Hauroko and down the Wairaurahiri River to the Wild South Coast. An optional 4 hour return walk to the mighty Percy Burn Viaduct or just take in the scenery, short walks in the bush, bird life, wild life on the coast. A BBQ included. This option is not included in the tour price.

Day 7: Manapouri to Queenstown. Travel by glass-roofed coach to Fiordland over spectacular alpine roads to Milford Sound to join a Milford Sound Tour. Cruise to the open sea with a nature guide and friendly crew, then travelling back through the scenic alpine ranges surrounding the beautiful fiords of the area before returning to Queenstown.

Day 8: Queenstown. This is a free day in Queenstown and here are some options for you to consider. Jet boat the world famous Shotover River with Shotover Jet, then take a scenic helicopter ride landing at the summit of Skyline Gondola, visiting the Skyline Complex to witness the majestic views before riding the Gondola Cableway back to town, a decent of 450m. Cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the T.S.S Earnslaw to Walter Peak high country farm and disembark for either a fascinating farmyard tour with a delicious barbeque lunch option or a guided horse trek.

Day 9: Queenstown to Franz Josef. Stop for lunch at one of the area's beautiful vineyards on the way to the Haast Pass and the rugged West Coast. We stop at Franz Josef for an opportunity to enjoy a flight on a ski plane over the Franz Josef Glacier, where a 12 kilometre glacier descends to around 300 metres above sea level.

Day 10: Franz Josef to Christchurch. Visit Shantytown, an authentic 1860s gold-rush town with steam train rides, gold panning (where you're guaranteed to find gold!), horse and buggy rides, and over 30 fully furnished historical buildings to explore. Then we travel to Cristchurch over Arthur's Pass, journeying through the Arthur's Pass National Park the third national park to be established in New Zealand and approximately 100,000 hectares.
