Note : guaranteed departure on the 02/01/2010 from Mekele.
Day 1: Drive from Mekele to Hamed Ila through Bore Hale (Bere Ale) where we will pick up police scouts, road guides and permits for the Afar region. From Berehale, proceed driving to Hamed Ila, where we will watch the camel caravans carrying salt from the salt lake to Mekele for sale. Overnight camping in Hamed Ila.
Day 2: From Hamed Ila, continue to Erta Ale via Kusawad 90 km. The Erta Ale volcano has been in a constant state of eruption for over 40 years. We will stop in the village of El Dom, starting to climb of Erta Ale and camping on the volcano overnight.
Day 3: Rise and shine see the sun rise on Erta Ale volcano while Hike back to El Dom and continue driving to Dalol. Visit Lake Asal, working salt mine from which the Afar nomads have the laborious task of removing the salt as generations have done, while hundreds of camels await to carry the loads on the long trek back to Mekele. At the end of the day return to Hamed Ila (Ahmed El) for overnight camping.
Day 4: Start drive to Makele arriving for dinner time, overnight in Hotel. Overnight in Hotel in Mekele.
Day 5: Start from Makele. Would be preferable start earlier in the morning max 6am to arrive in Lalibela around 12 with breakfast on the way. In Lalibela visit 1st, 2nd and the afternoon transfer to Hotel.
Day 6 : Visit the the third group churches, overnight in Hotel
Day 7: Start our Early drive back to Dessie,overnight in Hotel
Day 8 :Drive to Addis Abeba through the scenic highlands O/n Hotel
Day 9 Tour of Addis if there is time and transfer to hotel
