5 Days/4 Nights
Day 1 - Madremanya Arrive at your charming village hotel, where the boutique hotel consists of a series of restored 15th-century townhouses. Enjoy a guided Spanish wine tasting session with the hotel’s sommelier and meet Chef Vicenç, the hotel restaurant’s acclaimed chef and your instructor for the week. This evening, enjoy your first cooking class and a tour-of-Catalonia wine tasting. Typical dishes include suquet, a Catalan bouillabaisse, an enormous variety of fish and shellfish, escalivada (roasted vegetable salad), mar i muntanya (surf and turf)–pairing lobster or prawns with chicken or rabbit–escudella i carn d’olla (Catalan stew), pa amb tomàquet, and esqueixada. Enjoy your meal paired with local wines. Weather permitting, you will dine with the chef on the outdoor terrace. Beautiful! Day 2 - Madremanya After a morning of leisure, join Chef Vicenç for a daytime cooking class. Although the dishes cooked vary by season, they always include fresh local seafood, meat, and produce. After the cooking class and the multi-course lunch paired with local wines, the remainder of the day is free; an ideal opportunity to visit the nearby castle that artist Salvador Dalí bought for his wife Gala, to go for a leisurely walk, or to rent bicycles and ride the beautiful bike trails through the countryside. This evening, enjoy a memorable dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant, BoTic. Day 3 - Madremanya This morning after breakfast, explore two nearby medieval villages, then visit a local cheesery, olive oil mill, or vineyard. Next, experience a leisurely and scenic walk along the coast, and visit a beautiful small coastal town on one of the most famed stretches of Catalonia’s exquisite Costa Brava - the “Wild Coast”. Take a guided walk along the camí de ronda (seaside path) rising above the sheltered coves of the coast. On days when the catch has been plentiful, there is a fish auction in L’Escala. L’Escala is also famous for its salt-cured anchovies, which all guests will enjoy tasting. Savor a superb lunch in a famed seafood restaurant before returning to the hotel for a free afternoon - perhaps swim in the hotel’s pool, drive to the nearby beach, or schedule a relaxing massage. This evening, you will enjoy your third and final cooking class with Chef Vicenç, which will inevitably lead to another marvelous feast. Day 4 - Empordá A driver and guide pick you up for a private guided winery tour to the Empordà wine region near the Pyrenees. Wine production in the region is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance with modern methods and new grape varieties. Visit one of the region’s best wineries to explore the vineyard and taste the wines with the owner Jaume. Everyone will together enjoy a traditional Catalan grilled lunch of lamp chops grilled over grape vine cuttings. Spend your last afternoon at leisure before enjoying a tasting menu of the hotel restaurant’s in-season specialties – traditional Spanish and Catalan fare prepared with a modern sensibility. Day 5 - Departure Prepare for your departure home. Notes: The trip price is based on the included services and the number of people traveling. Trips start from $400 per person per day.
