Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Christchurch. Explore the inner city of Christchurch by historic Tram & tranquil Punt. The Tram provides an informative commentary of the most interesting & historic sights in the city. Stroll around the pretty Botanical Gardens, visit the Arts Centre & historic Riccarton House. Overnight in our partner accommodation in Christchurch.
Day 2: Christchurch—Lyttelton—Akaroa. Visit the eclectic port town of Lyttelton & sample the fare at one of its many street cafes. Drive over to charming Akaroa which is a historic French & British settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano. Take your time and wander through this picturesque village. Overnight in our partner accommodation in Akaroa.
Day 3: Akaroa—North Canterbury. Swim with wild Hectors (the worlds smallest & rarest) dolphins in their natural habitat. Drive to North Canterbury and breathe in the fresh country air. Overnight in a luxury rural North Canterbury lodge.
Day 4: North Canterbury—Hanmer Springs. Depart North Canterbury and take the inland scenic route to the alpine town of Hanmer Springs. Have a relaxing afternoon at the therapeutic Hanmer Hot Pools. Overnight in our partner accommodation in Hanmer Springs.
Day 5: Hanmer Springs—Kaikoura. Do a forest walk up Conical Hill (1 hour return) which has magnificent views from the lookout shelter. Take the inland scenic route to Kaikoura. Eat locally caught seafood for dinner tonight. Overnight in our partner accommodation in Kaikoura.
Day 6: Kaikoura—Christchurch. Experience a spectacular whale watch tour in Kaikoura. Visit Waipara’s finest wineries on the way back to Christchurch for tastings and cellar door purchases. Overnight in our partner accommodation in Christchurch.
Day 7: Kaikoura—Christchurch. Be treated on your last day to a hot air balloon ride over Methven & the Canterbury Plains. Champagne breakfast on landing. In the afternoon drive to the seaside town of Sumner, eat an ice-cream & relax at the beach!
