Day 1: Arrival in Quito. Fly today from Cuzco to Quito, the capital of Ecuador has a setting that few cities can match. During the 13th century it was the prosperous center of the Kingdom of Quitus. It later became the northern capital of the Inca Empire. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Colonial architects built formidable temples, monasteries and mansions, creating an urban jewel designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Overnight 3 nights in Quito. Day 2: Quito Scenic Tour. This morning you will be picked up by one of our hand selected guides to take you on an orientation of this great city for 3 hours. The tour has many panoramic stops so make sure you take your camera. If you have any special interests be sure to let us know at the time of your booking. Day 3: Day of Leisure. A free full day today - if you wish to do an additional tour of special interest, please let us know in advance. Alternatively you might like to just keep this day free. Day 4 & 5: Avenue of the Volcanoes. The adventure starts in Quito as the Chiva Express advances along the Avenue of the Volcanoes, with a stop at the station of Machachi for a snack and then `ride the roof` up the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano. Then continue by bus to visit an Indian market, dinner and overnight at Riobamba, located at the foot of imposing Chimborazo volcano. Overnight for 1 night Riobamba Hotel. After an early breakfast, transfer to the train station to board the Chiva Express for a scenic ride to Alausi. Twist and turn over the Andes, along bridging ravines and river gorges. Arrive to Alausi and prepare to go down the Devil`s Nose switch backs, one of the most impressive feats of rail engineering in the world, and back to Alausi. Continue by motorcar to the station of Huigra and again board the Chiva Express to descend from the Andes to the coastal plains. On the ride to Bucay, you will experience the transition from Andean ecosystems to the lush tropical coastal vegetation: bananas, oranges, pineapples, ginger and wooden farm houses on stilts. Arrive to the town of Bucay and then proceed by road to Ecuador`s largest city, Guayaquil. Day 5: Guayaquil. Today arrive into Guayaquil in the early evening and dropped at your hotel in time for dinner time. Days 6-10: Galapagos Islands. Today after breakfast you will fly to the Galapagos Islands, the flight take approximately 2 hours. Arrive normally before midday and you will be staying at the Finch Bay Eco Resort. Experience the Galapagos of your dreams in this in-depth Galapagos Adventure that puts you in close contact with the natural world, while enjoying a relaxing stay at the Finch Bay Hotel on Santa Cruz Island. At the Finch Bay Hotel you will truly experience a place of superb natural beauty and intimate connection with nature like the Galapagos. At dusk, the orange colored skies are the backdrop for thousands of cattle egrets that fly overhead on their way from the highlands of Santa Cruz Island to their nesting area in the mangroves at the back of the hotel. Blue footed boobies and brown pelicans plunge into the ocean looking for their last bite before retiring for the night, while the night herons awaken and emerge from the mangroves to look for food along the beach. Overnight 4 nights in the Galapagos Islands. Day 10: Departure from the Galapagos. On the last day after breakfast we fly you back to Guayaquil to connect with your on-going flight.
