Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya. Arrive to Nairobi, the first stop on your journey through the wilds of Kenya. Met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight: Safari Park Hotel. Includes: (B).
Day 2: Nairobi City Excursions. Your animal encounters begin before you even set out on safari with a visit to Daphne Sheldrick's Baby Elephant Orphanage. Here, you see baby elephants cared for by attentive keepers who even sleep with the animals at night. Continue to the Giraffe Center, home to several endangered Rothschild giraffes. Stand on a platform to offer them food, which they snatch from your fingers with their long blue tongues. Overnight: Safari Park Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 3: Sweetwater's Conservancy. Drive to the Sweetwater's Reserve set within the 24,000 miles from Pejeta Conservancy at the foot of Mount Kenya. Set out to look for animals on escorted walks as well as a night game drive. Sweetwater's is an excellent place to see two of Africa's most endangered species: the black rhino (they're actually gray or brown) and the chimpanzee, the primate most closely related to humans. Both species are protected here in reserves set aside for them. Overnight: Sweetwater Tented Luxury Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve. After breakfast, travel to the drier bush country of the Samburu Game Reserve. From your comfortable lodge, set out to see Africa's most famous wildlife firsthand: buffalo, lion and leopard are all found along the Uaso Nyiro River near your lodge. The reserve is also the home of the Samburu tribe, cousins of the Maasai, who share the same nomadic, cattle-herding existence. Overnight: Samburu Serena Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve. See more of Samburu's typical species and meet some of the Samburu at their village. Young safari-goers enjoy game drives and encounters with Samburu's "Special Five," called that because they're only found north of the equator: the reticulated giraffe, long-necked gerenuk, Somali ostrich, Grevy's zebra and the beisa oryx. Overnight: Samburu Serena Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park. Descend into the Great Rift Valley enjoying stunning views of the escarpment on the way. Lake Nakuru is a shallow soda lake, renowned for its huge concentration of flamingos and over 460 species of birds. After checking in to our safari lodge inside the national park, embark on an afternoon safari game drive, in search of the resident black and white rhino, buffalo, impala, and the elusive leopard. Overnight: Lion Hill Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve. Awaken from the sounds of the wilderness. After breakfast, drive across the Great Rift Valley to the land of the Maasai, a cattle-herding people still proudly maintaining their traditional way of life. Arrive at your luxury tented camp in time for lunch, where you spend the afternoon driving across the limitless plains viewing the abundant game in one of Kenya's most spectacular areas. Overnight: Sarova Mara Luxury Tented Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Days 8 & 9: Masai Mara Game Reserve. Spend two days in this magnificent savannah country, home to Kenya's most varied animal populations. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings. Lion can be seen throughout the park along with elephant, giraffe and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly spotted, and you may also find rhino. Young adventurers enjoy mammal study on morning and afternoon game drives, guided walks with the resident naturalist to identify animal tracks to cast in plaster, and nature walks with lessons on herbal medicine. Discover the abundant birdlife, and learn how to identify them through their calls, bills, feet, habitats and plumage patterns. Between game drives, visit a Maasai village to learn about tribal home life and meet the young children, warriors and elders.
During your stay, you may have the opportunity to visit a primary school in the local village. Learn the arts of beadwork and leatherwork, the proper way to throw a spear or start a fire with sticks, and participate in other fun activities with your new Maasai friends. In the evening, the family is treated to a display of traditional singing and dancing. On one of your mornings here, consider adding an optional hot air balloon safari. Overnight: Sarova Mara Luxury Tented Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 10: Nairobi Departure. This mid morning fly back to Nairobi, where lunch is held at the renowned Carnivore Restaurant. Sample an array of both game and domestic meat, roasted on long skewers in the traditional Maasai way. Eat as much as you can before lowering the flag on your table in surrender. For vegetarians, there is an extensive menu. Continue to Panafric Hotel, where dayrooms are reserved until departure for your homebound flight. Dayrooms: Panafric Hotel. Includes: (B), (L).
