Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Chennai (Madras). Arrive Chennai and transfer to hotel. After a relaxed morning we enjoy an afternoon city tour to Fort St. George, built by the East India Company in 1653 and St Mary's Church, the first English church in India. A welcome dinner has been arranged for this evening and stay overnight at the hotel. Day 2: Mysore. Take an early morning train from the imposing Chennai Central Station to Mysore and transfer to the hotel and visit Srirangapattanam and Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace in the afternoon and stay overnight at the hotel. Day 3: Mysore. This morning sightseeing covers the Mysore Palace, an extravagant building in the Indo-Saracenic style, Chamundi Hill and Nandi Bull. The remainder of the day is free to explore the colorful markets. Mysore offers much for shoppers, particularly silk and sandalwood products. Stay overnight at the hotel. Day 4: Mysore - Ooty. After breakfast depart for Ooty. After lunch at the hotel take a short train ride on the "toy train" to Coonoor, a pleasant town surrounded by tea gardens. Overnight at the hotel. Day 5: Ooty – Cochin. After breakfast at hotel depart for a long, interesting drive through rural landscape to the port city of Cochin. On arrival check into your hotel and in the evening enjoy a Sunset cruise to see Chinese fishing nets and stay overnight at the hotel. Day 6: Cochin. The colonial influence of Cochin becomes evident when you visit the Jewish Synagogue, built in 1567, housing the Grand Scrolls of the Old Testament and the Dutch Palace, with its 17th century murals of the Ramayana. Also visit St Francis' Church, where the Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama was buried. In the evening attend a Kathakali performance, a traditional dance of Kerala and overnight at the hotel. Day 7: Cochin – Kumarakom. Depart for Kumarakom after breakfast and check into your hotel. The afternoon is free to relax by the pool, take an Ayurvedic massage or explore the nearby bird sanctuary. Overnight at the hotel. Day 8: Kumarakom – Periyar. Morning after breakfast drive to Periyar on a scenic route dotted with plantations of rubber, cardamom, cocoa, green pepper and areca nut, on arrival check in and evening free to relax and stay overnight at the hotel. Day 9: Periyar. After breakfast at hotel leave for plantation tour and later enjoy a boat ride on Lake Periyar to spot wild animals. Evening free to relax or pamper yourself with Ayurvedic massages at the hotel. Day 10: Periyar – Madurai. Drive down Madurai, the 2000-year-old capital of the Pandyans. In the afternoon visit Meenakshi Temple, a grand display of Dravidian architecture, with profusely carved "gopurams". Day 11: Madurai – Kanyakumari. Today drive to Kanyakumari, the Southern most part on India where Indian ocean, Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal confluence together. Overnight at the hotel. Day 12: Kanyakumari – Kovalam. After break leave for Kovalam, the finest beach in South India. Overnight at the hotel. Days 13 and 14: Kovalam. Day of leisure on the beach or try Ayurveda. Stay overnight at hotel.
