Day 1: Overnight in Nairobi. We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to The Methodist Guest House, a peaceful haven set in a quiet residential area (or a similar guesthouse) where you will spend the night on bed & breakfast basis as you unwind, relax and recover from jet lag.
Day 2: Nairobi – Sweetwaters Camp. After breakfast, you will be picked from the guesthouse at 0730hrs and driven towards the Mt Kenya region arriving at Sweetwaters Tented Camp in time for lunch. The camp is situated in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private game sanctuary inhabited by zebras, giraffes, lions, buffalos, elephants and other small animals. In addition, Sweetwaters is home to the only Chimpanzee sanctuary in the country. After lunch you will take a game drive around the sanctuary and return to the Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Sweetwaters – Lake Nakuru. Departure from Sweetwaters Camp will be after breakfast when we will drive through the Great Rift Valley, which incidentally, begins beyond the northern frontier of Israel and ends in Central Mozambique. The Rift Valley contains several lakes including Lake Nakuru where we will head, arriving in time for lunch at one of the lodges within Lake Nakuru Game Reserve. We will take an afternoon game drive and perhaps visit the Rhino Sanctuary within the reserve. We will also get to see the millions of Pink flamingos that form a pink blanket at the shores of Lake Nakuru and many other species of birds including the Grey-crested Helmet-shrike and the colourful Rupell's Long tailed Starlings. After the game drive, we return to the hotel for dinner and will spend the night within the reserve.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha. Breakfast will be followed by a visit to the Hyrax Hill, a seasonal settlement for prehistoric people dating back at least 3,000 years, situated about 4.5km away from Lake Nakuru. The site provides scenery of lifestyles and achievements of our distant ancestors with its well preserved and laid out exhibits. After the visit we will proceed to Lake Naivasha, the only fresh water lake in the Rift Valley and yet another Important Birding Area (IBA). Lunch will be at the Elsamere Educational centre. Elsamere is the former home to Joy Adamson, world famous naturalist and author of best selling “Born Free” which formed the basis of the “Born Free” movie. It is a haven for nature lovers, set on the banks of Lake Naivasha and its educational centre focuses on lake ecology and environmental awareness programs. After an evening boat ride on Lake Naivasha we will dine and spend the night at Elsamere.
Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara. We depart from Naivasha and drive south to the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve, arriving in time for lunch at a lodge within the park. After lunch and a laid back afternoon, we take an evening drive for some wildlife viewing across the terrain through which thousands of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelle and other herbivores migrate annually in search of water and grazing land, pursued closely by predators such as lions, hyenas and cheetahs. You may be lucky to spot the all of the “big five” in addition to the numerous smaller animals that have their home here. We return to the lodge after 6 pm for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Maasai Mara. We take one full day to experience the Mara magic and explore the park to the maximum with game drives, stopping to have a picnic lunch then drive back to the lodge for dinner and spend the second night there.
Day 7: Maasai Mara – Nairobi. The last day of your African adventure begins with a final early morning game drive for those who can rise at the crack of dawn. (Early morning and evenings are the best time to catch the predators in action.) After the game drive, we will have breakfast at leisure before setting off for Nairobi. We arrive early evening and you will be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport to catch your flight back home.
The cost per person sharing varies depending on whether you choose the camping or lodge option.
