Journey through the rich agricultural farmlands in the high shoulder of Mount Kenya to the savannah grasslands of Samburu Game Reserve, home of the Maasai giraffe, Reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra. Then visit the ornithologists paradise and enjoy some birding at Lake Naivasha, the only fresh water lake in the Rift Valley and Internationally recognised Important Birding Area (IBA). Finally, enjoy the unforgettable wildlife viewing experience in the home of Africa's greatest wildlife spectacle, the 'Great Migration' - the Maasai Mara Game reserve - through which thousands of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelle and other herbivores migrate annually in search of water and grazing land, pursued closely by predators such as lions, hyenas and cheetahs.
Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Overnight in Nairobi. We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to The Methodist Guest House, a peaceful haven set in a quiet residential area (or a similar guesthouse) where you will unwind, relax and spend the night on bed & breakfast basis. Day 2: Nairobi – Samburu:. After breakfast, you will be picked up from the guesthouse and driven via the green, forested Mt Kenya region to the open savannah plains and scrub-lands of Samburu Game Reserve which are broken here and there by small rugged hills. The Ewaso Nyiro River which flows from Mount Kenya waters these arid plains and supports a wide variety of game among them the Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, buffalo, elephants, lions and lions among other game. You arrive in time for lunch at a lodge after which you start your exploration of the park. Return to the lodge later for dinner and the overnight stay. Day 3: Samburu. You will take morning and evening game drives to explore this unique reserve. It is here in the Samburu Game Reserve that a Lioness adopted a total of 6 Oryx calves in succession, a spectacle that left wildlife experts amazed! Day 4: Samburu – SweetWaters Camp. After breakfast, you take a drive to Sweetwaters Camp and arrive in time for lunch. The camp is situated in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private game sanctuary inhabited by zebras, giraffes, lions, buffalos, elephants among other animals and home to the only Chimpanzee sanctuary in the country. After lunch, take a game drive around the sanctuary and later return to the Camp for dinner and overnight stay. Day 5: Sweetwaters – Lake Naivasha. After breakfast you will drive via the Rift Valley with its stunning scenery, into Naivasha. Lunch will be at the Elsamere Educational centre. Elsamere, a haven for nature lovers set on the banks of Lake Naivasha, is the former home to Joy Adamson, world famous naturalist and author of best selling “Born Free” which formed the basis of the “Born Free” movie. Its educational centre focuses on lake ecology and environmental awareness programs. After an evening boat ride on fresh water Lake Naivasha, you will dine and spend the night at Elsamere Day 6: Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara. Depart from Naivasha and drive south to the world famous Maasai Mara arriving in time for lunch at a lodge. You will take an evening game drive across the terrain through which thousands of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelle and other herbivores migrate annually in search of water and grazing land, pursued closely by predators such as lions, hyenas and cheetahs. You may be lucky to spot the all of the “big five” in addition to the numerous smaller animals and bird life that have their home here. You return to the lodge after 6 pm for dinner and overnight stay. Day 7: Maasai Mara. Experience a full day of the Mara magic and explore the park. (In the months of July to August/September, you could witness the spectacular wildebeest migration from Serengeti National Park straddling North Western Tanzania and South Western Kenya into the Maasai Mara). Stop for a picnic lunch, then later drive back to the lodge for dinner and spend the second night there. Day 8: Maasai Mara – Nairobi. A final early morning game drive for those who can rise at the crack of dawn. Early morning and evenings are the best time to catch the predators in action. After the game drive, we will have breakfast at leisure before setting off for Nairobi. You arrive early evening and you will be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport to catch your flight back home.
