Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: After an early breakfast, drive to, for official registration. Walk through the rain forest for about three hours to Mandara hut (2743 m). Day 2: After breakfast, leave the forest and walk across open moor land for about five hours to Horombo hut (3760 m). If you have acclimatization option then you will spend two nights here at Horombo. Day 3: Walk through moorland, then alpine desert for about three to four hours to “The Saddle” between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. From here you will walk for an hour to reach Kibo hut (4730 m). Day 4: Very early start for the summit on steep scree and zigzag way for about three to four hours, up to Gillman’s Point (5681 m), which is on the crater rim. Continue around the rim, this will take about two hours if you are fit to Uhuru Peak - (5895 m) the highest point in Africa. Descend to Kibo Hut for something light to eat or drink and then down to the thicker air relative warmth of Horombo hut. Day 5: Descend to Marangu Gate. Drive back to the hotel for hot shower and a warm bed. End of the service. Note: - Ski sticks are useful when ascending the scree to the summit - Accommodation is in comfortable huts, so you will require a sleeping bag and a mat. - An extra day for acclimatisation to the altitude can be spent at Horombo.
