- Yoga in the desert and on the top of the fantastic Mountain Sinai
- Snorkel or dive amidst some of the most stunning coral reefs in the world
- Discover the fascinating culture of the local Bedouin tribe
- Ride Arabian horses in the deserts and mountains in and around Dahab.
This 8 day yoga holiday is set in the remote region of Dahab, an oasis on the Red Sea coast. One of Egypt's forgotten treasures, Dahab, overlooks a necklace of coral reefs - the second most extensive reef system in the world. Year-round warm water has developed a fantastic ecosystem where tiny clown fish play and elegant rays glide.
As well as daily yoga we offer a range of activities including: trips to the Biblical Mount Sinai, camping in the desert, scuba diving, camel trekking or adventuring deep into the Sinai desert on an Arabian horse.
Day 1: Arrival Dahab. Arrive in Dahab and you will be transfered by our representative at the hotel.
Day 2: As well as year-round sun and warm seas, Dahab sits on the edge of the Sinai desert, a landscape of desolate valleys and barren peaks. After morning yoga we offer an introductory walk to explore this lovely town. Later you could take a short desert walk followed by yoga in the utter stillness of this spectral land (optional). After class we’ll have dinner in a Bedouin tent before returning to town as the sun sets.
Day 3: Red Sea. The Red Sea is home to some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. As well as scuba diving there’s the chance to snorkel, windsurf, kite-surf or free-dive: all levels are catered – from experienced divers to first-time paddlers. Apart from the twice daily yoga classes you’re free to try whatever you want, your group leader can arrange whatever you like.
Day 4: Mountain Sinai. A morning yoga session before leaving
Dahab for the barren landscapes of the interior. We stay under the looming Mount Sinai before a Bedouin dinner and bed. This is an optional trip.
Day 5: Mountain Sinai. An early start sees us climb to the summit for sunrise. We then have a gentle class in Elijah’s Hollow, reputedly where Elijah, Moses’ assistant, cowered as the Ten Commandments were revealed between thunder and lightening bursts. Then we descend (you can take a camel if you wish) to St Katherine’s monastery before returning to Dahab.
Days 6 & 7: Dahab. Today you are free to discover the town by yourself and simply relax. An oasis by the sea, Dahab was first discovered in the 70s and quickly gained a reputation as a laid back idyll. Later it developed into a diving center and today it retains its relaxed atmosphere. After morning yoga you’re free to explore the many waterside cafes and restaurants, kick back for a fruit cocktail or two, try the local fish, or just improve your suntan. As well as yoga and meditation, you can have a massage, visit a Turkish bath, or simply relax and enjoy the sunshine.
Day 8: Tour ends for some of you. The others, who have chosen the extension version of the tour continue our journey. We leave Dahab and we continue our journey and meet our Bedouin guides, tribesmen whose families have lived here for centuries. Expert cooks and trail finders, these tribesmen show us sand dunes, canyons and sand blasted mountains before setting up our overnight camp under the stars.
Day 9: Today we will explore the Sinai desert. The Sinai is a vast wilderness untouched since the Israelites passed through in 2500 BC. Today we visit a Bedouin settlement and experience the endless peace of the desert plains. Our guides provide fire-baked bread and delicious vegetarian stews before we bed down by the fire for the night
Day 10: Return to the Coast. While the Red Sea has experienced extensive development, some secret gems remain. Big Duna is a place of tiny coastal camp set on sand dunes rolling into the sea. With its own secluded bay and reefs, the simple palm huts of Big Duna are the perfect ending to this very special holiday.
Day 11: Departure. End of the service.
