From here we will drive for an hour to Komombo Temple the only temple to be built for 2 gods, Sobek and Horus. After a tour around this temple with time for you to browse we will leave for Aswan and the High Dam. The High Dam at Aswan was considered an engineering miracle when it was built in the 1960s. The dam provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt. From here you can gaze across Lake Nasser to Kallabsha Temple in the south and the huge power station in the north.
We will leave the dam for the Philae Temple. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, Philae Temple has a beautiful setting on an island in the river, which has been landscaped to match its original site. It's various shrines and sanctuaries celebrate the deities involved in the myth of Isis and Osiris. The Philae Temple was carefully moved to its current location (500 meters from its original site) when the construction of the High Dam caused surrounding Nile waters to rise. A short motorboat ride takes you to the island where your Egyptologist will take you on a walking tour through the temple before allowing you free time to explore further on your own. After a Nubian Lunch, which is included in the price, we will drive back to Luxor a journey of approximately 2 1/2 hours.
