A true appreciation of what makes the Douro valley special can only be had via a boat trip along the river. The speedboat can access little inlets that larger boats can’t get to and which allow the visitor to enjoy the scenery in the most private manner and in constant contact with various Quintas. Due to the tour being done on a speedboat means that you can stop and photograph birds in flight, or even swim, just about anywhere along the river. If you prefer a calm trip up the river, we propose a trip on the traditional Port boats – the Barcos Rabelo – or rather exact replicas of the boats that carried the casks of Port from the farm to the lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.
