Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Uganda Wildlife Education Center Entebbe. You will take an early morning breakfast then go birding to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) previously known as the Zoo. This is a habitant to over 170 species of wild birds in Uganda, 10 species of Weavers such as the rare Northern masked weaver, the Golden backed, African paradise, Baglafect northern brown throated weaver, Grosbeak, Black necked and many more. Encounter raptors such as the Gabar goshawk, small banded snake Eagle, Shikra, African goshawk, African fish eagle, African hobby to mention but a few. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Day 2: Entebbe. Today we will start with a heritage trail which will allows you to view several African birds including: the Short toed snake eagle, Brown crowned tchargra, Mssustached warbler, Violet backed starlings, Black cuckoo shrike, Red shouldered cuckoo shrike, Yellow bill, Brown twin spot, Great sparrow hawk, Southern banded snake eagle and many more. Thereafter, set off for Lutembe beach for lunch. Take a boat ride which will enable you to see thousands of Grey headed gulls, the papyrus canary, White winged black terns, Papyrus gonolek, and continue birding in the evening. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Day 3: Mabamba swamp - Kampala. Your birding safari today will lead you birding in the Mabamba swamps in Uganda, which has up to 5 Shoebill species. Birding here is mostly done canoeing. You will see birds like: Squacco, African water rail, long toed plover, Goliath, Purple, Herons, Pygmy Goose, Yellow billed duck, White faced whistling duck, Grey and black headed heron moorhen, Allen's gallinule, Black crake, African jacana among others. Sitatunga antelope (swamp antelope) and many more. Drive to Kampala stop by another swamp this may reveal the Papyrus gonolek, White winged Warbler, Yellow crowned bishop, Weyns weaver, and many more. You will carry with you packed lunch and retire in the evening for dinner and overnight in Kampala. Day 4: Kampala - Mabira Forest. You will drive to the east of Uganda after breakfast to Mabira forest reserve. The forest is a home to several bird species like the stunning great blue turaco and more familiar African grey parrot. It also has three forest hornbill species and a variety of sunbirds. Here you may have the chance to see the pretty Tit hylia. In the forest still is the forest wood-hoop, African pitta, purple-throated cuckoo-shrika, leaflove, Weyn`s weaver and Nahan`sfrancolin. Have a picnic lunch and return in the evening to Kampala for dinner and overnight. Day 5: Kampala - Lake Mburo. Today you will drive to Lake Mburo National Park which is a habitant of a handsome 315 bird species, to add to this, it is the best place in Uganda to see acacia-associted birds. The birds here include: Scimitarbill, Emerald Spotted wood dove, Bare faced go-away bird, Crested francolin, Green wood hoopoe, Lilac breasted roller, Spot-flanked Barbet northern black tit, Common scimitarbill, Trilling cisticola, Greater Blue Eared Starling, African Grey Hornbill. Take lunch at Kimbla-Mantana or Rwonyo Restaurant or Mihingo Lodge. After lunch, get on late afternoon game drive along the Zebra Track. You may also see the evasive Leopard and other nocturnal species. Retire for dinner and overnight. Day 6: Lake Mburo. You will take a nature walk after breakfast in this savanna park which is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges, patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian wood line. This tour will enable you see the Impala, get to see Bushels zebra, some of the large mammals and several bird species like Red Faced Barbet, Red Headed lovebird, Black Collared Barbet, Green capped Eremomela and Lead colored Flycatcher. Return for dinner and overnight. Day 7: Lake Mburo - Kampala - Departure. Early in the morning game drive along the Lakeside track, you will get access to Aquatic habitats around Lake Mburo. Species to expect here include, White Winged Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Lesser and Greater Swamp Warbler and also the elusive Shoebill, the Blue headed Coucal. Proceed to the lakeside campground, as we look out for the African Darter, African Water Rail, African Fin foot, Spur winged plovers, and many more. Return midmorning for breakfast and later for launch- cruise in search for papyrus species missed, Hippos, Crocodiles are the extras expected. Drive to Kampala, have lunch in Masaka town and continue to Kampala. Your birding guide will transfer you to Entebbe international airport and you will catch your flight back home.
