Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Antigua (unguided). Guests are met and transfer to Antigua (1 hour). Antigua (3 nights). Day 2: Architecture and History Tour. Guests will take a half day walking tour of Antigua (3-4 hours). The tour takes in the main square, Palace, Cathedral, La Merced Church and San Francisco Church. All entrances are included. Free afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 3: Azotea Coffee Farm, Maya Museum. Guests visit the local woodcarvers in the village of Jocotenango and then the fabulous Azotea Coffee Farm and Maya Traditions Museums covering traditional music, costume and traditions. Free afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 4: Comalapa Market and Lake Atitlan. Guests will be transferred to visit the colorful authentic market at Comalpa (1 hour) and enjoy a tour of the market, the famous local primitive painting galleries, a local bakery and the famous town mural. Transfer on to Lake Atitlan (2.5 hours). Lake Atitlan (2 nights). Includes: (B), (L). Day 5: Lake Tour (San Juan, Santiago). This morning guests will take a scenic boat ride across Lake Atitlan (30 minutes) to the village of San Juan La Laguna where they can visit the women’s textile cooperative to see hand weaving and natural dye processes. Will also visit the studios/homes of the celebrated naïf painters. From here guests continue to the village of Santiago where they have lunch in a local hotel and tour the village visiting the Maya God Maximon and learn about the textiles, spiritualism and beliefs of the T’zutujil Maya. Return to hotel via Saint Catarina Village. Includes: (B), (L). Day 6: Chichi Market (unguided). Today guests transfer (approximately 1 hour) to the famous market at Chichi. Time for shopping in this fabulous craft market and an opportunity to see Maya rituals being performed in the Catholic Church before transferring on to on to Guatemala City Airport (3 hours) in time to catch the early evening flight to Flores (30 minutes). In Flores you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the rain forest (transfer time depends on hotel). Tikal Area (2 nights). Includes: (B), (L). Notes: - Upgrade with a guide - Upgrade with a helicopter transfer. Day 7: Yaxha Sunset. Guests enjoy a free morning to relax. After lunch they transfer to Yaxha National Park (approximately 1 hour) to explore this atmospheric lakeside site ending with refreshments and wonderful views at sunset over the rain forest canopy from atop the main temples. Includes: (B). Notes: - Add a canopy tour in the morning - Upgrade with a luxury picnic. Day 8: Tikal. Today guests transfer to Tikal National park (approximately 1 hour) to explore the amazing UNESCO protected Mayan Temple site of Tikal where huge Mayan temples rise above the jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical birds are abundant in the surrounding rainforest. After lunch, relax and will fly back to Guatemala City (30 minutes) and transfer to their hotel (approximately 10 minutes). Guate City (1 night). Includes: (B), (L). Notes: - Upgrade with a luxury picnic - Transfer out (B) (unguided). Day 9: This morning our driver will transfer guests to the airport (approximately 10 minutes) in plenty of time to catch their flight.
