Tour Itinerary:
Game Park Fly-Drive - Lower Zambezi - South Luangwa
Day 1: Arriving at Lusaka Airport we make an air transfer to our camp in the Lower Zambezi National Park. We arrive there about mid-afternoon and settle into camp before going on a night game drive, then back for a dinner under the stars.
Days 2 & 3: We spend these days in the Park, game viewing, night spotting and walking. This is a fabulous "hidden valley" location sandwiched between the Zambezi River and the Muchinga Escarpment, which is the western-most end of the Great Rift Valley. Most of the major wildlife species are found here in a compact area.
Day 4: We leave the Lower Zambezi in the early morning and drive through uninhabited country to Bridge Camp on the banks of the Luangwa River, stopping over for lunch en route. Today we'll be experiencing challenging safari travel as we make our way along a little-used track through the Muchinga Escarpment. It is wild, beautiful and rugged country - the real Africa - and our journey will give us a genuine sense of exploration.
Day 5: After breakfast following a comfortable night in the Bridge Camp chalets, we leave and drive east to Ndevu Camp, arriving there in time for lunch. This is a new camp with a long frontage along the Luangwa River, with comfortable chalets or tents and all facilities. In the afternoon we can rest up or take a walk in this game rich area.
Day 6: With an expert guide we go on a walking safari in the impressive riverine forest area. Walking is of course an excellent way to view the smaller sights of flowers and insects which often can be overlooked in a vehicle, but it's also an opportunity to see larger game from a different perspective. We overnight in a fly camp set up for us in advance of our arrival.
Day 7: In the morning we complete our walking safari back to Ndevu Camp where we breakfast then take to the road again heading for the famous South Luangwa National Park, stopping for lunch on the way. We arrive at our camp in the Mfuwe area in the late afternoon.
Days 8 & 9: We spend these days game viewing in South Luangwa. This is Zambia's best-known park and is generally regarded as one of the finest wildlife environments in Africa. It offers a wide variety of game - lion, buffalo, the beautiful Thornicroft's giraffe which is found nowhere else, Cookson's Wildebeest, also endemic to the area, and elephant, to name but a few, and a striking profusion of more than 400 bird species.
Day 10: We do an easy, early farewell game drive, then transfer the short distance to Mfuwe airport, thence by air to the luxurious Protea Safari Lodge just outside Lusaka.
Day 11: Our safari ends with a short road transfer to Lusaka International Airport.
