The Serengeti plains and woodlands are justifiably famous for the density and mass of wildlife. A Serengeti Balloon Safari offers a completely different perspective on watching wildlife than in a 4x4 on a game drive. The landscapes are breathtaking. The ever-changing skies are mesmerising. And the thrill of ascending gracefully up and above one of the world's most famous wildlife reserves provides one of life's great memories. There is of course no guarantee that you will see specific animals from the balloon, but previous flyers have seen some amazing wildlife from up above, and witnessed many amazing events such as lion kills, cheetah hunts, leopard stalks and of course the annual wildebeest migration - one of the natural wonders of the world. You'll also be in safe hands - the pilots are all committed conservationists and will share their knowledge of the area and wildlife with you. Naturally, wildlife has priority and consideration is given to them when flying. You shouldn't be disappointed. The Serengeti Balloon Safari departs every day throughout the year (weather permitting) including the 'green season' months when mornings are usually bright and sunny with a good breeze - ideal for ballooning. Tour Itinerary: 0500: The Serengeti balloon safari operator will collect you from your central Serengeti (or Western Corridor) lodge and transfer you to the launch site near the Maasai Kopjes where you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing and watch the balloon inflate. Take off at dawn as the sun rises and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. You will ascend to 1000 feet or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot must put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below. Your balloon flight will last for approximately an hour, on landing you celebrate in the traditional manner with champagne (well, an excellent sparkling wine), before sitting down to a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in 'Out of Africa' style with bone china, linen table cloths and King's silver.
